Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez announced earlier in the week that he is uninterested in restoring diplomatic ties with Jerusalem. Chavez told al-Jazeera the government would only reconsider such a move if Israel’s leaders stopped being a genocidal elite subordinate to the United States.

In January, Chavez announced that he was expelling Israel’s ambassador, cutting all diplomatic ties later that month, announcing due to Israel’s war crimes in Gaza during Operation Cast Lead, his country was expelling the Israeli diplomatic mission and cutting all ties with the Jewish state.
