Next week, beginning on Sunday, the nation begins its largest-ever preparedness exercise, dubbed Turning Point 3, simulating multiple attacks against Israel from different borders, as well as from the enemy from within. The exercise includes multiple scenarios involving all aspects of government, emergency services and security and defense forces. That said, Vilnai did state the exercise is a planned event and there is no reason for alarm or panic.
 
Deputy Defense Minister Matan Vilnai announced that the scenarios are not “imaginary”, telling Knesset Foreign Affairs & Defense Committee members on Monday that in the next war, there is no doubt that Israel will be facing multi-prong missile attacks. He also stated that as soon as in November, the Homefront Command will begin redistributing gas mask personal protection kits, which were collected after the Second Gulf War.
 
Millions of kits are already sealed and standing by for distribution, but there is an admitted shortage of children’s masks and efforts surrounding filling the void. The distribution will be carried out by private firms under contract by the IDF and not by the military.
