Nakba Law: Ideology or Money

The new Nakba Law what was approved on Sunday does not outlaw anti-state activity be organizations, but it does permit the state to refuse funding for such an organization. The current amended law sponsored by MK (Yisrael Beitenu) Alex Miller refers to organizations, not individuals.

That means an organization may mark Independence Day as a day or mourning, but the organization sponsoring such event may be refused state funding as a result of its actions, rejecting the democratic Jewish character of the state. Organizations expressing support for terror against the state, racist incitement encouraging violence and terror, or an act of disrespect to the national flag or state symbol will place an organization in the Nakba Law category.

Left-wing and Arab parties decried the passing of the law, with Arab lawmaker Dr. Ahmed Tibi labeling it “Insanity against the Arabs population”. He added “The ministers are poisoned worse than border police”. Similar condemnatory statements were heard from MKs of the Balad, Hadash and Meretz parties.
