Israel: When Anger Supersedes Prudent Judgment

mda3.jpgA boy was struck by a bus in Jerusalem on Monday afternoon. Paramedics wanted to take him to the trauma unit of Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital – the highest level trauma unit in the State of Israel. The medics also explained to the father that only Ein Kerem has certain diagnostic equipment for a head injury which is applicable in this case.

Due to the ongoing conflict surrounding the case of the so-called Munchausen mom, the father, a member of the chareidi community, insisted his son be taken to Shaare Zedek Medical Center.

NOTE: This article in no way seeks to cast aspersions on the expert level of emergency care at Shaare Zedek.

  1. the trauma unit in hadassah ein kerem is known for it’s very high standard and expertise, with professor avi rivkind as it’s head. the paramedics should not have listened to the father.

  2. to #3 agreed, and since they cant take care of the patients they already have, why should they be allowed to accept more? If that boy was allowed to starve in that hospital without the doctors knowing, I certainly wouldnt send my son there

  3. SHARRIE TZEDEK HOSPITAL DOES NOT ALLOW A FAMILY MEMBER TO STAY WITH AN ELDERLY PATIENT OVERNIGHT. I DID NOT UNDERSTAND WHY TILL I EXPERIENCED IT MYSELF TO DISCOVER THAT THE NURSES WERE ASLEEP!! I WENT IN TO STAY WITH THE PATIENT IN MY FAMILY AND SAW THE NURSES IN CARDIOLOGY INTENSIVE CARE ASLEEP. I SAT THERE TILL 5 IN THE MORNING , WHEN THEY AWOKE , AND THEY CHASED ME OUT. THE NURSES DID NOT ALLOW US TO STAY WITH THE PATIENT …. THE PATIENT WAS CALLING FOR OVER AN HOUR AND THEY WERE FAST ASLEEP. IMAGINE ONCE I SAW THEY WERE ASLEEP I WENT IN TO SIT IN THE ROOM. I WOULD BE WILLING TO TALK ABOUT THIS TO ANYONE. IT WAS AN ABSOLUTE NEGLECT ON THEIR PART!! NO ONE TO TALK TO!!

  4. BY THE WAY .. THE REASON FOR ME WRITING ABOUT SHARRIE TZEDEK IS TO GET THEIR POLICY CHANGED ABOUT NOT LETTING A FAMILY MEMBER SIT IN THE ROOM OVERNIGHT WITH A PATIENT. THEY ARE FRIGHTENED , DO NOT ALWAYS SPEAK THE LANGUAGE AND ARE THERE TO MAKE THEM COMFORTABLE ANY MINUTE OF THE NIGHT. WHY WOULD IT BOTHER THE NURSES??? THEY DO NOT WANT ANYONE TO SEE THEM SLEEPING— I WITNESSED IT MYSELF!!! A PATIENT SHOULD NEVER , NEVER , BE LEFT ALONE. NO ONE CAN CARE FOR THEM LIKE FAMILY!!

  5. #4 You said it! I don’t blame the father. If the doctors cannot admit to what they’ve been doing to that child and had the police arrest an innocent mother, I wouldn’t trust that hospital so easily again.

  6. #4 You said it! I don’t blame the father. If the doctors cannot admit to what they’ve been doing to that child and had the police arrest an innocent mother and allowed the justice system to torture her like that, I wouldn’t trust that hospital so easily again.

  7. Well, if politics is more important than his child’s health…..then this father needs his brains tested. How sad.

  8. It has nothing to do with the level of the trauma unit. Shaare Zedek’s trauma unit is one of the world’s best, just as good as Hadassah Ein Kerem’s.

The issue here is that Shaare Zedek does not have neurosurgery. Shaare Zedek is more focused on internal medicine, including cardiovascular medicine (including surgery in that case). However, it is, as far as I know, ‘weak’ in neurology (few neurologists there) and does not have neurosurgery at all.

The father indeed made a big mistake here. He could have killed his son. Ambulances nowadays always take people to the RIGHT hospital instead of to the CLOSEST hospital. There is no sense in taking someone who may need neurosurgery, a burns center, or such things, to a hospital which is closer but does not have these services.

  9. 1. The Gedolim have already CLEARLY come out that in NO WAY are they against Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital and CLEARLY stated that it is improper to boycott the hospital. (as was reported on this website)

    2. The father has transgressed a horrible aveira by putting his son’s life in jeopardy! If his son would have died he would have been oiver Ratzicha! אל תהיה חסיד הרבה!!!!

  10. It isn’t so clear that a patient will under most conditions be better off at a research-oriented hospital like Hadassah that regards patients as specimans to be used for study and research (and where the patients and his/her family are not included in medical decision making), as opposed to a lower-tech but friendlier environment.

  11. It is now known as a fact that the doctors at hadassa created a libel in order to save themselves from being sued for malpractice therefore I would think twice and three times before stepping foot in there.

  12. I dont understand why YWN gives off such negativity towards the various incidents happening in Yerushalayim the past few days. There definitely is room to agree or disagree but as a Yeshiva – website can’t you choose a more neutral tone?

  13. In complete agreement with #4. The child was in the care of the hospital, in an open hospital ward (NOT a private room), for many months. Only now they “discover” that the child is starving? Are there any doctors or nurses over there?

  14. I hope the child is ok, but if there are problems, who will the father and the community blame and riot against?

  15. Really? Let me guess… if the kid ends up with permanent damage because of this poor decision who will be to blame? I’m sure it will all be chalked up to a conspiracy against Chareidim rather than blaming the idiot father.

  16. 23- Concerned Member- your nickname is extremely inappropriate to your comment…
How about if the kid suffered severe damage- hunger etc. from Hadassah hospital- that shouldn’t worry the father – chutzpah for you to call him idiot father…
Poor father worried for his child that’s being abused & I guess tried out for some sort of experiment by hadassah hospital- they definitely should transfer child immediately…
#23- you can send all your kids to that hospital (hope they never need it..) but don’t talk like that to poor father…

  17. During the infamous Crown Heights Riots, in NY City, Yankel Rosenbaum, HY”D, was taken to the top trauma center at Kings County Hospital, after he was stabbed.

The “Top People” there allowed him to bleed to death, while waiting for service.

A caring attitude is sometimes more important that a Top Rating.

  18. Deepthinker, Yankle Rosenbaum H”yd bled to death not while he was waiting for help but because the doctors never turned him over so they didnt see the second stab wound. It was malpractice that added to the pogrom.

If people here feel the care at teaching and research hospitals are dangerous, I would suggest they don’t go to NYU (Tisch) Hospital or Maimonides.

  19. to Pashute Yid

The forms that need to be signed were in a US hospital.
Israel is a third world country
There is growing evidence to back up the mother and family’s claims against the hospital.

It seems to me that you think that Israel runs like America, sorry to disappoint you buddy!

Malpractice insurance is a lot more expensive in the US!!!!!

You should check other media sources besides for Yeshiva World because I feel that in this particular case they were influenced by the biased secular media which it seems they used as their source of information, and I am very disappointed.

Why was I (who am not a reporter) able to get some reliable information from reliable sources within the community and verify some simple fraudulent claims which were lighting up with red lights.
