Tuesday Afternoon News Briefs from Eretz Yisrael


An Arab teen who was shot and wounded by soldiers after throwing a firebomb at them near Bet El on Monday night has died of his wounds. At least one other attacker was wounded by the IDF response to the potentially lethal attack.

**The trial of former President Moshe Katsav began today in the Tel Aviv District Court.

**A bus was targeted in a rock-throwing attack near el-Aroub, in the Gush Etzion district. No injuries reported.

**Escorted by several hundred supporters and family members, former Shas minister, R’ Shlomo Benizri reported to Massiyahu Prison to begin serving a 4.5-year sentence. Benizri will be assigned to the shomer shabbos wing of the prison.

**Former Finance Minister Avraham Hirschson reported to Rimon Prison to begin serving a 5-year 5-month sentence.

**A police car responding to a domestic dispute on Jerusalem’s David Yelling Street was targeted by chareidim throwing rocks. No injuries or damage reported.

**Egyptian security forces shot and killed 2 people trying to cross the border into Israel.

**Addressing a girl’s school in eastern Jerusalem, President Shimon Peres stated construction in the eastern capital should be permitted for Jews and Arabs alike, based on need.

**A 77-y/o woman was badly beaten by an assailant who tried stealing her bag. She put up a struggle. The attack occurred during the daylight hours in a Bat Yam shopping center. The woman remains in Wolfson Hospital.

**A 71-y/o male entered a Rishon L’Tzion police station and asked the clerk to write down a phone number. He then pulled a handgun and took his own life.
