Israel: N. Resident Listed as a Murderer – Unable to Secure Employment


A 22-year-old northern Israeli male was perplexed, unable to secure a job despite having gone on dozens of interviews. Only after he conducted a check into his record did he learn that he was listed as a convicted murderer serving a life sentence.

Five years ago, he was arrested on a minor drug charge, and a year later, for interfering with a policeman and escaping from detention. He was sentenced to 30 days of community service. Since that time, he has not found a job but was unable to understand just why this is the case.

At the end of the story, the young man learned his criminal past according to state computers is considerably more illustrious and he appears as a convicted felon, a murderer no less. Attorney Basal Falah took the case, and filed an urgent petition with the Nazareth Administrative Court, to have his record modified to reflect reality.

Police report that an error occurred when someone entered information into the computer file pertaining to his record, adding the matter has been corrected.
