Report: Chareidim Prevented Construction of Church & Mosque in Terminal 3

bga.jpgAccording to a report in the daily Haaretz, chareidi pressure has resulted in delays in the construction of a church and mosque in Ben-Gurion International Airport Terminal 3 as planned. The new terminal has been in operation since 2004, and it was to have included the other houses of worship in addition to the shul, which exists.

The report states that Israel Airport Authority spokesperson Ronit Eckstein declined comment,  quoting “aviations officials” as confirming the reason they were not constructed to date was due to chareidi opposition.

  1. It is sad enough that we can not eliminate the mekomos avodah zara that already exist. We do not have to create additional new ones.

  2. Good for them. It is not necessary. Israel does enough to accommodate every religion in it’s borders; even those who put their citizens’ lives, heaven forbid, at risk. Where are the human rights organizations, though, to see about more synagogues in the arab world?

  3. To have a mosque in Ben-Gurion makes a statement about the ideals of the country which it represents. It’s not “Eretz hoAmim” it’s ‘Eretz Yisrael’.

  4. I dont get the whole fuss. Israel has been fuding mosques and churches for years!
    Surprised? You shouldnt be!
The Religious affairs ministry (though I think this is now part of The Prime Ministers office) gives money to build Shuls every year. In line with equality the state is required to allocate funds to minority religions in proportion to the percntage that they make up in Israel. This is given at about 22% to other religions. this means that for every 100 NIS given to build places of worship, 78 NIS goes to shuls and the rest goes to build churches and mosques.

    So why the fuss now?

  5. What is even worse is that the chiloni schools, though they do NOT (for many years) teach Tana”ch, DO teach about xtianity and islam including teaching passages from the koran and “new testament”!!!

  6. AinOhdMilvado, THATS MY POINT, IF JEWS ARE ENTITLED TO A SHUL IN JFK AIRPORT, THEN WHY SHOULD IT BE DIFFRENT IN ISREAL MUSLIMS AND OTHER RELIGIONS ALIKE ARE ENTITLED TO A PLACE OF WORSHIP IN BEN GURION AIRPORT

  7. #120–
    1) Don’t Scream, I’m not deaf!
    2) I still don’t see your point because
a.) We don’t need a shul in JFK
    and
b.) even if there is one, it is irrelevant. Israel is a Jewish state (or at least is supposed to be). We ar not me’chuyav to provide other religions with places to pray. (Do you think there is a shul in the Cairo airport?)

  8. I actually agree with #7. Jews where ever they go make minyanim and stick their religion in the Non jews faces. It is hypocritical to deny the Christian faith their place of worship. We as jews are in exile and why must we anger the non Jews by showing them contempt and not accomodating them?

  9. AinOhdMilvado, now i am not screaming no more but BTW there is no shul in the Cairo airport becouse there is not even more then a minyan of jews living in Egypt

  10. #17 there are no jews because they were expelled.
Maybe we should do the same to our arab “cousins” and then we would settle this controversy once and for all.
