Two Israeli teens on bicycles succeeded in triggering a southern area military alert on Monday night when they crossed the border into Egypt. There were reports circulating of an abduction of Israelis into Egypt, resulting in military forces in the border area being placed on alert. Reports of a feared abduction began circulating at about 9:30pm Monday night.
Eventually it was learned the two crossed into Egypt and they were not victims of a kidnapping. They were taken into custody by Egyptian officials, and returned to Israel via the Kerem Shalom border crossing at about 3:00am. They were taken to the Dimona police station and questioned, eventually admitting they did not lose their way but crossed into Egypt intentionally, seeking a “thrilling adventure” prior to their induction into the IDF.
