PM Stands Firm Regarding Machpelah and Kever Rachel

In the special Knesset session held on Wednesday, a session permitting the Kadima opposition leader to attack the government’s performance over the first year in office, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu defended the government’s decision to include the Machpelah and Kever Rachel on the national heritage sites list. Sadly, the decision, which should not require an explanation, is indeed controversial and the secularists like opposition leader MK Tzipi Livni blame the move for sparking renewed Arab violence, riots and threats of a “Third Intifada”.

Equally sad is the prime minister’s response, justifying his move by explaining the so-called Arab area of the Machpelah, Ulam Yitzchak, was refurbished, so now, we may also do the same for the Jews.

Baruch Hashem Mr. Netanyahu went on to explain “we are not here by chance” but by our heritage and right, the presence for almost 4,000 years. He stated the decision to restore our national heritage should cross party lines and enjoy widespread support.

Mr. Netanyahu went on to explain he believes conditions are “ripe” for renewed talks with the PA (Palestinian Authority, but added two are needed to move ahead on the diplomatic front.
