Ynet Accuses DHM Litzman of Pushing Chareidi Liver Transplant Patient Ahead of Recipient Line

According to a Ynet report, Deputy Minister of Health R’ Yaakov Litzman personally intervened to arrange a liver transplant for an 18-year-old chareidi teen abroad. According to the report, Italian health officials demanded that Israel commit to returning another liver in its place in the future, for an Italian resident. At the end, Litzman managed to find a suitable liver in Belgium, without an Israeli commitment to replace the organ in the future. As a result, the transplant was moved to the new venue, avoiding the need to find a donor for an Italian citizen in the future.

The report continues that Litzman did indeed become personally involved in the life-saving effort, including telephone calls on shabbos.

Health Ministry officials indicate that “senior physicians” contacted the minister, calling upon him to become personally involved in the case, which was indeed life-threatening”.

At present, 151 Israelis await a viable organ for a liver transplant.

  1. Yasher Koach to Reb Yaakov for his successful Pikuach Nefesh efforts. The “Chareidi” angle brought into the story is irrelevant and further demonstrates YNET’s anti-semitic rants.

  2. To editor,
Did Ynet use the word accuse or is that your interpretation? Is the Headline straight from Ynet or is that your interpretation?

  3. To Commentator #1:
Actually, the charedi angle is completely relevant. This young man is rumored to be from a prominent charedi family.
Do you know of any other reason why Litzman would intervene to move this man to the head of the list and be given priority over the 151 other patients?

Litzman is not known to have undertaken similar interventions on behalf of patients who are not charedi. Given that he was acting as a minister of the Israeli gov’t, you can understand why questions are being asked as to whether he represents all citizens or just one sector.

To #2, YNET reported a fact and did not “accuse.”
