Baruch Dayan Emmes – Gavaad Haifa R’ Yaakov Rosenthal ZATZAL

Immediately after shabbos the word spread of the petira of HaGaon HaRav Yaakov Rosenthal zt”l, Gavaad Haifa, Gra Rosh Yeshiva and author of ‘Mishnas Yaakov’ on the Rambam.

According to a HaMevaser report, the niftar was born 86 years ago in Yerushalayim to HaGaon HaRav Avrahom Dovid Rosenthal zt”l, rav of the Shaare Chessed neighborhood of Yerushalayim and dayan on the beis din of Rav Tzvi Pesach Frankel zt”l.

The niftar studied in Yeshivas Eitz Chaim, and over the years became known for his gadlus, forming a relationship with HaGaon HaRav Meltzer zt”l and HaGaon HaRav Fischer, Gavaad of the Eida Chareidis.

The niftar learned chavrusa for many years with HaGaon HaRav S.Z. Aurbach zt”l. His rebitzen z”l, the daughter of HaGaon HaRav Mordechai Shmuel Karul, the rav of Kfar Chassidim, continuing his studies in Eitz Chaim.

HaGaon HaRav Yosef Sholom Elyashiv Shlita relied on his piskei halacha, informing Haifa area residents to turn to R’ Rosenthal when seeking a rabbinical p’sak. Among the niftar’s well known talmidim in the rabbanus is Rishon L’Tzion HaGaon HaRav Shlomo Moshe Amar Shlita.

R’ Rosenthal was admitted to Shaare Zedek Medical Center about two months ago and he was niftar during shabbos. The levaya began in Yerushalayim at 11:00am from the Gra Shul in Shaare Chessed. The levaya continues at 3:00pm from the niftar’s beis medrash on Rabbi Akiva Street in Bnei Brak, traveling to the beis hachaim in Haifa.

  1. Rav Rosenthal ztl was a true oheiv yisroel and a tremendous talmid chochom. I will miss seeing his pleasant face every time I visit Eretz Yisroel.

  2. “dayan on the beis din of Rav Tzvi Pesach FRANK” not Frankel.

I would also clean up “His rebitzen z”l, the daughter of HaGaon HaRav Mordechai Shmuel Karul, the rav of Kfar Chassidim, continuing his studies in Eitz Chaim.”

The last part of the sentence doesn’t belong and makes no sense.

Sigh. Unfortunately par for the course on this website.
