* The bill, sponsored by Likud MK Ariel Kallner, was approved by the Ministerial Committee for Legislation and is scheduled to go to the Knesset plenum for a preliminary reading.

* Prime Minister Netanyahu and his supporters oppose a state commission of inquiry, arguing that its members would be selected by the judiciary, which the government does not trust.

* Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara sharply criticized the legislation, calling it “tailor-made” for the government’s needs and saying it lacks proper legal authority.
