Mount Etna Erupts Again, Lava Fountains Reach 1,000 Feet

Italy’s Mount Etna entered a new eruptive phase on December 26, Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) confirmed. Lava fountains rose more than 1,000 feet into the air, with rock fragments thrown several kilometers above the volcano’s summit, the institute said.
Authorities have issued a yellow alert, and officials are monitoring any possible impact on nearby Fontanarossa Airport in Catania.
