Israel’s Foreign Ministry announced that Yaakov Harari, a 71-year-old Israeli-Argentine citizen, was released from a Venezuelan prison after more than a year in detention and arrived in Israel earlier today.

Harari was held without formal legal proceedings under harsh conditions; his release was secured through Israeli diplomatic efforts with the assistance of several foreign governments, and he was then flown via Rome back to Israel.
