United Airlines To Raise Summer Fares Up To 20% Amid Surging Fuel Costs

United Airlines said it will raise summer fares by as much as 20% as fuel prices surge following the Iran war, with travelers expected to absorb much of the increase.

CEO Scott Kirby said strong demand for travel is allowing the airline to raise prices. He added United was able to recapture 40% to 50% of increased fuel costs during the first quarter.

Jet fuel, the airline industry’s biggest expense after labor, has doubled since the war began. United is also cutting planned flights this year, while lower capacity could drive up airfares.
