John Sterling, the legendary voice of the New York Yankees, has passed away at the age of 87.
Sterling began calling Yankees games in 1989 and became one of the most recognizable voices in sports, famously never missing a broadcast while calling 5,060 consecutive games until July 2019.
Known for his unforgettable home run calls and signature line — “The Yankees win! Theeeeeeeeeee Yankees win!” — Sterling became synonymous with Yankees baseball for generations of fans.
He retired at the start of the 2024 season due to health concerns.
