REPORT: Iran Demanding $24 Billion in Frozen Assets as Condition for U.S. Peace Deal

Iran reportedly told Qatari mediators it will only sign a peace agreement with the U.S. if $24 billion in frozen Iranian assets are released, according to The Telegraph.

• The proposal reportedly calls for $12 billion to be released immediately following the announcement of a memorandum of understanding, with the remaining funds released within 60 days.

• Iranian officials reportedly delivered the demand during talks in Doha, insisting “no negotiations are possible” without access to the money.

• The proposal has sparked backlash among some Trump allies, while Pakistani and Qatari mediators are reportedly working on safeguards to prevent the funds from being used for Iran’s nuclear program or proxy groups.
