New FDNY EMS Station Opening In Manhattan

Fire Commissioner Salvatore J. Cassano will cut the ribbon on a new FDNY EMS Station, located at 501 West 172nd Street in Manhattan on Monday, January 7, at 10 a.m. EMS Station 13 will serve Washington Heights and the surrounding communities.

“Since 1996, the Department has wanted an EMS Station in Washington Heights to better serve one of our busiest areas of the city,” said Commissioner Cassano. “This new station will mean improved availability of ambulances staffed by highly-trained FDNY EMTs and Paramedics in the community and will enable the Department to further improve on our record-setting ambulance response time of 6:30 in 2012 to the most serious medical emergencies.”

EMS Station 13 is a 3,136 square foot facility located at West 172nd Street and Amsterdam Avenue. This new station will staff 17 ambulance tours and three EMS Officer tours each day. The station contains a supply area for advanced and basic life support, a vehicle supply room, a decontamination bay and parking for spare ambulances. FDNY received jurisdiction of the property from the Department of Citywide Administrative Services in 2011 and worked with the Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget to secure $1.4 million in funding for the project.
