10 Accused Of Auto Thefts In Queens, Brooklyn

pdcState police and Queens prosecutors say 10 men have been indicted on grand larceny and other charges for stealing cars from dealerships in Queens and Brooklyn for resale.

The indictment says the men from Queens and Brooklyn stole 11 vehicles, including one taken from a private individual, in late 2011 and early 2012.

Queens District Attorney Richard Brown says that in the early 1990s “an astounding” 50,000 cars a year were reported stolen in Queens, a total that has dropped to fewer than 3,000 a year now.

Authorities say the eight-month investigation included undercover buys and court-authorized electronic surveillance.
