LISTEN: The Fascinating World of Fundraising in Halacha

The world of philanthropic giving and fundraising in Halacha can be complex.

When running an organization, the challenge is how to treat the raised funds. What is the status of an organization’s overhead? Can fundraisers take percentages? How about flying business class to raise money? Who owns the Tzedakah organization in the first place?

On the donor’s side, questions arise about Tzedakah endowments, or what the attitude should be towards public giving. Tune in to this week’s episode of Halacha Headlines as we explore these topics and more in this episode devoted to Giving and Fundraising in Halacha.

Hosted by Rabbi Dovid Lichtenstein, CEO Lightstone Group and author of Mishnah Acronah and the Headlines Book series, this week’s guest speakers are Rabbi Herschel Shacter, the Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshiva University; and Rabib Sholom Ber Sorotzkin, head of the Ateres Shlomo network of mosdos.

  1. What about each moisad spending tons of money trying to outdo all the other moisdois for our tzedoka dollars? What about endless emails saying that the early bird deadline for the auction that’s 6 months away is “only” 3 months away and you’d better hurry up? What about the complete distortion of what an oni is? Why should anyone give to any of these places?
