Catskill Mountains – Fallsburg miracle story

A mother and her 18-month-old child dragged by a minivan rolling backward Sunday have survived, Fallsburg town police said. Chanie Raab, 36, and her son were flown to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla for treatment of their injuries. The mother was released from the hospital Sunday night; her son was in stable condition there yesterday.

Raab complained of pain and suffered bruising and abrasions on her arms and legs, authorities say. The infant might have fractured a clavicle and a bone in his back, officials said.

Police said the van started rolling backward about 5:15 p.m. when Yackov Raab, the vans owner, went to drop his children off at Camp Bnos Viznitz.

Chanie Raab got out of the van to remove her son when it began rolling for an unknown reason, officials said.

Raab told police that her son was caught underneath the van, but she was able to push him out of the way before the tires rolled over him.
