The latest from John Edwards

john edwards.jpgA direct quote from a man who is running for US President: “Perhaps the greatest short-term threat to world peace,” Edwards remarked, “was the possibility that Israel would bomb Iran’s nuclear facilities.” Really? Israel is the biggest threat? Not Ahmadnejad? Not al-Qaeda? Not a coup attempt in Pakistan? Not a complete breakdown in Iraq drawing in the Saudis, Turks, and Iranians?

  1. Each of these Democrats are a bigger joke then the next one. We remember John Edwards from the primaries during the last election. Who can forget John Kerry one of the biggest idiots I’ve ever seen. We see b’poel that “lave milochim v’soreha b’yad H-shem”

  2. ….and if achmd edwards becomes the demoncrats candidate for President, he will get all the votes of the liberal loony (Jewish) left! they will forgive him and testify how he was quoted out of context yada yada yada… the whole issue will be blown over by the secular Jewish media.

b/t/w in what setting did he make these comments? was it at a NKUSA melava malka and he was just pandering?

  3. Shocking that a Presidential Candidate, regardless of which party he belongs to, would make an official statement like that .
Does he really think that he will attract voters this way?
And to think that the Jewish Dems had a problem with Romney’s choice of launching his campaign at the Henry Ford’s museum…..what a laugh!

  4. Before we all get bent out of shape about this so-called quote from John Edwards, let’s look at the source, the highly partisan National Review. The quote contradicts everything Edwards has said about Israel until then, which has been very pro-Israel, and may very well be a mis-quote. See, for example, this article at http://web.israelinsider.com/Articles/Politics/10435.htm

John Edwards, to Herzliya Conference: ‘Iran is serious about its threats’
    By Ynetnews January 23, 2007

“Iran is serious about its threats,” former US Senator John Edwards told the Herzliya Conference at the Interdisciplinary Center on Monday.

“The challenges in your own backyard — represent an unprecedented threat to the world and Israel,” said the candidate for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination, referring mainly to the Iranian threat.

In his speech, Edwards criticized the United States’ previous indifference to the Iranian issue, saying they have not done enough to deal with the threat.

Hinting to possible military action, Edwards stressed that “in order to ensure Iran never gets nuclear weapons, all options must remain on table.”

On the recent UN Security Council’s resolution against Iran, Edwards said more serious political and economic steps should be taken. “Iran must know that the world won’t back down,” he said.

Addressing the second Lebanon war, Edwards accused the Islamic Republic of having a significant role, saying Hizbullah was an instrument of Iran, and Iranian rockets were what made the organization’s attack on Israel possible.

Edwards also discussed Syria’s recent calls for peace with Israel, saying that “talk is cheap,” and that Syria was not doing enough to prove it was serious.

The former senator also said that Syria has been a great source of destabilization in the area, from its support of Hizbullah and Hamas, to its relationship with Iran, and for this it should be held accountable.

After opening his speech with great praise for former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, Edwards continued to express great appreciation for the Israeli people and the special bond between the two countries, saying it was “a bond that will never be broken.”

On the three Israel Defense Force soldiers who are being held captive by Hizbullah in Lebanon and Palestinian terrorists in Gaza, Edwards said, “It is well past time for their return home.”

He continued to say that Israel has made many concessions in order to advance peace, including the Disengagement plan, adding that despite Israel’s willingness to return to negotiations, little has been seen on the Palestinian side.

Edwards also spoke against the Palestinian Authority, saying the Hamas government was no partner, and that Israel should make efforts to strengthen Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas against Hamas.

He also said the Palestinian government must know that foreign aid should not be take for granted, and that the US and Europe must do everything possible to make sure the money does not go to terrorists.

Until Israel has a real partner, according to Edwards, Israel has the right, and indeed the obligation to defend itself, and should be strengthened militarily, politically, and economically.

In a further display of support for Israel, Edwards went so far as to suggest that Israel should even be made a member of NATO, saying it was only natural that the organization would seen to include Israel next.

  5. FrunDem,

National Review is a highly respected and reliable source for quotes. This is not an opinion, but a direct quote (if I am reading it correctly.)

On the other hand, you are quoting Ynet, an anti-semetic rag widely known for its inaccuricies and outright lies, aside from its self-hating Jewish and anti-Torah beliefs.

  6. Frum Democrat:
I see you did your research or at the very least that your mouse is state of the art. I can certainly appreciate your opinion and take it with a grain (ok mound) of salt. As your clearly identify with the Democrat Party one which I feel left us, I understand your bias and therfore need to defend the most outrageous statements members of your party have.
As a proud Jewish Republican, I understand you better than you think. I do nothing but defend President Bush against the outspoken minority of America (in my humble opinion).
I hope gainst all odds that I am wrong, but we are indeed doomed to have a member of your party become president.
What I hope YW continues to do is shine the light on the disaster that awaits us in the hope that we can correct course and have a Republican SUPER majority in 2012.
Barack Hussein Obama and Hillary make quite a pair as does Edwards.

  7. “National Review is a highly respected and reliable source for quotes. ”
Thank you Joseph. I haven’t laughed so hard in a long time.

“On the other hand, you are quoting Ynet, an anti-semetic rag widely known for its inaccuricies and outright lies, aside from its self-hating Jewish and anti-Torah beliefs.”
So are you saying that John Edwards didn’t say waht was quoted? Or maybe he never was at the Herzilya conference? For that matter, maybe John Edwards does not exist and he was dreamed up by Ynet?

“I can certainly appreciate your opinion and take it with a grain (ok mound) of salt. ”
Pro, is it OK if I take Edward’s anti-Israel quote with a grain of salt for now? It’s a long way until the next election, and there’s too much coverage nowadays for anyone to hide their true colors.

“As your clearly identify with the Democrat Party one which I feel left us…”
    1) It’s the Democatic party. De-mo-crat-ic. OK?
    2) I know that many of us feel that the Democrats (note the correct usage here) have left us, but until I either become a multi-millionaire or a CEO of a Fortune 500 company, the Republicans will not be of any help to me. They pay lip service to the values issues to get votes, but they’re all talk. As the last 6 years have shown, they are best at helping their corporate buddies get wealthier while those of us in the middle class are falling further behind. And if you believe that they’re such good friends of Israel, wait till Condi (Bush’s foreign policy mentor) finishes her work.

“I do nothing but defend President Bush against the outspoken minority of America (in my humble opinion).”
I guess the 31% who still approve of Bush are not a minority. Please recheck your math.

“I hope gainst all odds that I am wrong, but we are indeed doomed to have a member of your party become president.”
You can thank your hero George W Bush for that.

I didnt b-lieve She could win in NY either! She was born in Chicago and live in Arkansas.
I was wrong and I think we’d be wrong to assume she cannot win Nationally. Check out a Hannity archive with Dick Morris.

  9. …any day now edwards will be giving a press release that he has Jewish roots – maybe he is even related to the same Jew that hilary claimed to be related to…

  10. Hey Pro, what’s with your defeatist attitude. It’s very unlike you. Its Adar – cheer up.

I hope you weren’t serious when you said that you “do nothing but defend President Bush against the outspoken minority of America”. Wow – thats compulsive. Try doing doing some other things once in a while. Try taking a walk or getting a hobby.

    All the best – Grumpy.

  11. Everyone has remind themselves that we {jews} are in galus.
You all should know that everyone basicly hates jews or are born again christians who believe Yashka will come when all jews are in israel.
    This includes republicans.
    May mashiach
    Come fast!

  12. I second fmlogic123. This country is just not ready yet to take on either Obama or Hillary to be voted in as president. They could get in by going through an underground door, however. Where they’re next in line to the president, or second next in line, or third, etc. etc.

  13. Grump:
Alas I cannot be cheered up (w/out Krispy Kreme). Haman is gathering steam throught the world and his minions the Jews for Mohammed are farflantzed amongst us.

But wait! All is not lost. Bubby (posted elsewhere in YW today) will save us.

  14. I think it will be Hillary against Giuliani. At this point the winner is a toss up, anyone’s guess. In case you haven’t noticed the election is about 1 year and 10 mos. away and even the primaries are many months away. There will be a lot of headline ink spilled over that time, about Iraq, Iran, Hamas Hizbollah and of course Al Kaida.

There will be domestic headlines, that we can’t even begin to predict; hurricanes, earthquakes, scandals…

  15. And the general feeling was always that there is more antisemitism in Europe than in America. Apparantly that is not the case…..

  16. Frum Dem:
I just wrote a long essay in response but realize it’s a waste. As I said we are ALL stuck in our biases, You’ll never give the benefit of the doubt to ANYTHING a Republican does let alone PRESIDENT Bush, and I will be hard pressed to ever like a Democrat again. It wasn’t always this way. You guys decided left is the way to go, and I’ll never agree. But best of luck to ya. Really!
Have a freilichn’ Purim buddy and Amen may Moshiach het here fast.

  17. Frum Dem:

The report originally came from Variety.com (hardly a bastion of conservatism) which was then picked up by NRO. Let’s get our facts straight before we start indiscriminantly discrediting news & opinion websites, however biased you are against them.

  18. John Edwards did more positive good for Israel in his few years in the senate than Bush, rice and co. havedone in two terms as president.
You know full well that he did not mean that israel is an active threat to peace…

  19. selective posting, no one heare posted all about all the good things edwards said the last couple of weeks about israel or the harsh hawkish tone he took on iran. but an out of context headline like htis makes YW no better than the partisan hacks at the NJDC and RJC who love to spin things.

  20. FrumDemorat, National Review is published by William F. Buckley Jr. for over 50 years. He is THE most respected American conservative, by all sides including liberals. nameless, Europe is a big wasteland of anti-semetism. It doesnt come close to America. Aside from all the Jewish blood dripping in Europe.

  21. der yid: so he took a hawkish tone on Iran big deal! If Bush makes a move on Iran he will be the first to blast him to please the anti-war crowd. everyone supported the Irag war until the move-on morons money got involved.

“You know full well that he did not mean that israel is an active threat to peace…” and I know this b/c you said so??? so he said a few good things until is true colors were exposed. the same will happen to Hil and to Obama and others and the leftest apologists will never see it.

  22. “Perhaps the greatest short-term threat to world peace is the possibility that Israel would bomb Iran’s nuclear facilities”

The greatest long-term threat to world peace is the likelihood of Iran getting the bomb.

  23. Ya’all gettin’ so mad ’bout ?

The dems are socialists, the republicans are WASPS, the current administration are a bunch of buffoons!
Hey, guess what? Our “own” Israeli politicians are even worse! They hate the frum, are a bunch of commies, and are worse then inept. Corruption is rampant,(still the only one to actually go to jail was Deri, he had two srikes against him, Frum+Sephardi),
and you guys care if Edwards did say, didn’t say, thought or didn’t think?!?!?

By the way anybody remember which party was in power when Pollard was lynched? ….When Gaza was evacuated ?
And in Israel, who was prime minister when Sinai was returned ?
Anybody remember how popular Sharon was by the right ? (I was at the ceremony of establishing the town of Emanuel, there were two “star” guests, MBD, and Sar HaBitachon Arik Sharon…)

Hashem runs this world guys… so don’t get so bent out of shape about silly poloticians

  24. Edwards is run to the left this time! he is trying to make headlines! any! & most prob. got blown out by hill(she thinks he is her threat

  25. ‘Europe is Hell’
‘Europe is a big wasteland of antisemitism…..doesnt come close to America…’
    ‘HASHEM RUNS THE WORLD’
you see , DUS is git gezugt.
Listen, we dont know WHO the next shliach will be and FROM WHERE his evil decree will emerge. So lets not get ahead of ourselves, based on Europes’ past (blood dripping. All we can do in this world is hope and daven!

  26. To say that bush only helped the rich is sure stupidity! our mosdos have received millions from his education plans which otherwise we would pay for. his raising of the child tax benefit has given thousands to many families who need it badly. the tax cuts have helped many as well. many seniors have gained plenty from republican prescription drug benefits. what exactly did the democrats give? just some needles to drug addicts.

  27. Re MdLevine: “You know full well that he did not mean that israel is an active threat to peace…” and I know this b/c you said so???

NO! HE SAID SO! Read the context! He was saying that the most imminent threat to world peace would be if Israel went ahead and attacked Iran, ie it would start a big war mess.

  28. “our mosdos have received millions from his education plans which otherwise we would pay for. his raising of the child tax benefit has given thousands to many families who need it badly. the tax cuts have helped many as well. many seniors have gained plenty from republican prescription drug benefits.”

Real Klur indeed. lets see any documented specifics?

  29. FrumDem ,

Keep up the good work. Though I think Joe Biden may have a better grasp of foreign affairs, I agree with your evaluation of John Edwards.

Frum Dems – keep Hope alive !
