OHEL Launches Online Foster Campaign To Address Urgent Need for Jewish Foster Parents

There are many requests and appeals made within our community. Ours is unique. An appeal for a family. A family, who can open its home and its heart and who can change the lives of these two children.

For over 40 years, OHEL Foster Care has cared for and met the diverse needs of thousands of Jewish children who have been placed in foster care due to parental neglect and/or abuse.

Thanks to loving and nurturing OHEL foster families who have opened their homes, OHEL has been successful in placing children and providing them with warm, loving and safe environments.

Given the increased need for Jewish foster parents, OHEL has recently launched a new Foster Care subsection on their website which comprehensively details how to become foster parents as explained through video, real stories and FAQ section. Please visit http://www.ohelfamily.org/fostercare

A UNIQUE AND URGENT REQUEST FOR TWO SPECIFIC JEWISH CHILDREN

Currently, OHEL is specifically looking for an adoptive family for two children who are in urgent need of a permanent home.

Daniel and Sarah* came into foster care in November 2008. They have been in two foster homes and their current foster parents have only been able to commit until the end of this school year.  Both fosterfamilies, the previous family and current foster family, have a strong relationship with both children and hope to maintain a connection with the children as well as the next family.

Daniel is an adorable and outgoing seven year old boy. He has a diagnosis of ADHD which he takes medication to address.  His teachers and foster parents have repeatedly conveyed that he is a bright and motivated young boy. Daniel loves attention and has the ability to connect with peers and adults very quickly.

Sarah is a playful and precocious four year old who loves dolls and coloring. Sarah has some developmental delays and receives speech therapy as a support. She is a sweet, little girl with a funny sense of humor who loves playing with her big brother.

Both children have wonderful, outgoing personalities. They are extremely personable and interested in the world around them.

Daniel and Sarah have a very close and loving relationship with each other. Daniel is very protective of Sarah and it is in the best interest of these children to be placed together. Both children identify as Jewish and need placement in a loving Jewish home.

Derek Saker, OHEL’s Director of Communications shares , that “our experience has shown that while OHEL Foster parents elevate the life of the foster child, the life of the foster family is always one immeasurably enriched.”

Any family who would be interested in adopting Daniel and Sarah would both need to first become qualified OHEL foster parents and reside within the New York area.
