VIDEO: Obama: Killing Of Israelis ‘Senseless Slaughter’

Speaking alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Obama sternly condemned Tuesday’s violence in Hebron that resulted in the death of four Israelis.

Calling the attacks by Hamas “senseless slaughter” carried out by “terrorists that are purposely trying to undermine” upcoming peace talks between Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Obama reaffirmed his commitment to seeing those talks through.

“I want everybody to be very clear,” he said. “The Untied States is going to be unwavering in support of Israel’s security and we are going to push back against these kinds of terrorist activities. And so the message should go out to Hamas and everybody else who is taking credit for these heinous crimes that this is not going to stop us from not only ensuring a secure Israel but also securing a longer lasting peace with the people throughout the region.”

The president spoke for roughly two minutes, wearing a dark suit and a lavender tie. He had notes placed on the lectern before him but did not appear to be reading heavily from them. To his left stood Netanyahu in a similarly dark suit with a red tie with blue stripes. The Israeli Prime Minister spoke after Obama and was slightly more graphic, calling the attacks “savagery and brutality.”

“These people have no respect for human life and trample human rights into the dust and butcher everything they oppose,” he said.

Prior to their statements, the two had been talking in the Oval Office as part of a set of bilateral meeting the president was having with key stakeholders in the region. Obama, who peered over Netanyahu’s right shoulder throughout his remarks, took the microphone once again afterward to address his upcoming meeting with Abbas.

“He condemned this outrageous attack as well,” the president said of the Palestinian leader. “I have the utmost confidence in him and his belief in a two state solution in which the people of Israel and Palestinians are living side-by-side in peace and security. He has got a lot of work to do. There are going to be those who will do everything they can to undermine these talks.”

As Obama spoke, a host of administration officials watched from behind the press including National Security Adviser General James Jones and the National Security Council’s Denis McDonough.

After four-and-a-half minutes, the press statements (which took place on the Oval Office Colonnade) ended. Obama and Netanyahu patted each other on the back and walked down to the Israeli Prime Minister’s car. Netanyahu closed the car door with Obama looking on and then soon departed.

FULL TEXT OF REMARKS:

12:24 P.M. EDT
PRESIDENT OBAMA:  Hello, everybody.  Prime Minister Netanyahu and I just had a very productive discussion about our shared efforts to advance the cause of peace between Israelis and Palestinians and throughout the Middle East. I’m going to have more to say about today’s meetings not only with Prime Minister Netanyahu but with the other participants of the talks here in the Rose Garden later this afternoon. But I did want to specifically take some time out to speak to the people of Israel and to the region about the senseless slaughter that took place near Hebron yesterday.

There are going to be extremists and rejectionists who, rather than seeking peace, are going to be seeking destruction. And the tragedy that we saw yesterday where people were gunned down on the street by terrorists who are purposely trying to undermine these talks is an example of what we’re up against. But I want everybody to be very clear: The United States is going to be unwavering in its support of Israel’s security and we are going to push back against these kinds of terrorist activities.

And so the message should go out to Hamas and everybody else who is taking credit for these heinous crimes that this is not going to stop us from not only ensuring a secure Israel but also securing a longer-lasting peace in which people throughout the region can take a different course.

I also want to express the deepest condolences of the American people to the families of those who were gunned down.  And I want to thank Prime Minister Netanyahu, during a very difficult time for his country, still being so committed to the cause of peace that he is here with us today.

Prime Minister.

PRIME MINISTER NETANYAHU:  Well, thank you, Mr. President, for expressing what I think is the sentiment of decent people everywhere, in the face of this savagery and brutality.

Four innocent people were gunned down and seven new orphans were added, by people who have no respect for human life and trample human rights into the dust and butcher everything that they oppose.

I think that the President’s statement is an expression of our desire to fight against this terror.  And the talks that we had, which were, indeed, open, productive, serious in the quest for peace, also centered around the need to have security arrangements that are able to roll back this kind of terror and other threats to Israel’s security.  That is a fundamental element, an important foundation, of the peace that we seek and work for.

And I appreciate, Mr. President, your efforts to advance this peace for us and for our neighbors, for our region, and I think we can say, for the world.

Thank you.

PRESIDENT OBAMA:  Thank you.
And let me just say that I will be meeting with President Abbas this afternoon.  He condemned this outrageous attack, as well.  I have the utmost confidence in him and his belief in a two-state solution in which the people of Israel and the Palestinians are living side by side in peace and security.  And so I am also grateful to him for his presence here today.
We’ve got a lot of work to do.  There are going to be those who are going to do everything they can to undermine these talks, but we are going to remain stalwart.

And so, to Prime Minister Netanyahu and to Prime Minister — and to President Abbas, as well as to President Mubarak and King Abdullah of Jordan, I am very grateful for their participation.  I will have a longer discussion about that this afternoon after my bilateral meetings.
Thank you.

  1. President Obama: Bla Bla, Bla Bla Bla Bla Bla. Furthermore, bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla!

Prime Minister Netanyahu: Thank you Mr. President, bla, bla bla bla bla bla. Bla bla. Bla Bla bla bla bla!

And so it goes on. Another chapter in the glorious “peace process” and all the while, Jews are slaughtered.

  2. OBAMA speaks at a Photo OP, now the media can print his photo and words in all the global papers.
Does anyone believe what he has to say?

  3. Senseless?
Yes, it WAS senseless that the spineless, emuna-less “government” removed checkpoints per the orders of Sheik Obama.
But as long as the Sheik condemned the attack, I guess it is OK that FOUR more Jews have been murdered, SEVEN more children are orphans, many families are in mourning and their lives are destroyed FOREVER!
Ribono shel olam – Ad Matai???

  4. obama calls killing jews a “senseless slaughter”. how cold and stupid could he be. as though there is such a thing a sensible slaughter. like telling the muslims y”s that they should kill when it makes sense.

  5. Well, President Obama and Prime Minister Netanyahu made public condemnation statements. Let’s see Mr. Abbas make pulic statements in Arabic and English condemning this or any other attack. Mr. Abbas is simply Arafat with a tie and has zero credibility.

  6. Change we need!

The saying goes you cannot change the world. You cannot change others; you can only change yourself! Yes, that is all you will ever be able to change, that is all you ever need to change.

  7. Have you sent the PM an e-mail urging him to dump the “Wansee Conference II”? I did. Send him one every day until he returns to sit shiva with the murdered Jews in Eretz Israel. Hashem yerachem!

  8. BS”D

The election of Barack Hussein Obama zol zayn hobn a misse mashine was a senseless slaughter of American values.

May the brochos which Rav Ovadia Yosef shlita gave to Abbas et al also apply to the tzoirer Barack Hussein Obama.
