INCREDIBLE VIDEO & PHOTOS: Israeli Air Force Display At Pilot Graduation – First Charedi Female Pilot

[VIDEO & LARGE PHOTO ALBUM BELOW] Dozens of pilot cadets graduated at a ceremony at Hatzerim Air Force base in Southern Israel. As the new pilots marched in perfect formation, one detail stood out: the long skirt of the first haredi female pilot in the IAF.

The graduation was followed by an aerial display of the Israeli Air Force, highlighted by a performance by Fouga CM-170 Magisters of the IAF aerobatic team as well as the new Lockheed-Martin F-16i Fighting Falcon “Sufa” fighter jet flying alongside the Supermarine Spitfire that flew in the Independence War of 1948.

Among the other aircraft featured in the display was an attack by the Boeing AH-64 Apache “Saraph” and Bell AH-1 Huey Cobra “Tzefa” helicopters, a rescue mission preformed by the Sikorsky CH-53 “Petrel” helicopter, a landing and rocket-assist takeoff by the Lockheed-Martin C-130 Hercules “Karnaf” transport plane, a flyby by the Israeli Aerospace Industries “Shoval” UAV drone, a battle simulation by the Boeing F-15i “Ra’am” fighter jet, and a re-feuling of the F-15i by the Boeing 707 “Re’em”.

  1. Penimah = Alone in a cockpit. And bas Melech= Flying up there, she’s closer to the melech than we’ll ever be 😉

  2. to 1818- Proud? Like being proud of a glatt kosher XMAS party. Gedolei harabanim said ye’hareg ve’al ya’avor and you say kiddush hashem?

  3. 1st Charedy Female Pilot, Shame on YWN for calling this IDF Pilot “Charedy” when ALL Gedolim of the previous generation including the Chazon Ish, the Brisker Rav, the Satmar Rebbe and many others issued a Psak Halacha that a Woman joining the milatary is “yeharag v’al yavor” how could one go against a Psak of all our Gedolim,

  4. shes charedi? israel very much on political obediance id find it hard to beileve shes properly charedi more like a good soviet komsomolnik

  5. The commenters who are slandering her don’t realize that she probably has the approval of her rabbis. And of course saving Jewish lives by keeping Eretz Yisrael safe trumps all othe halachic considerations other than idolatry, murder, and forbidden relations. Kudos to the new pilot!

  6. They probably meant to say that the young lady is from the chareidi leumi or chardal group. They have Rabbonim who allow them to serve.

Genug shoin with the narrow-mindedness! Have a little respect for people from other streams who take their yiddishkeit serious.

I am always so amused by those who want to bash others who don’t follow ‘their’ Rabbonim, as if their Rabbonim didn’t tell them not to be hanging out commenting on the Internet…. or, as we say sometimes, Pot, meet Kettle!

  7. simon01, not “ALL” gedolim of the previous generation say women in tzahal is “yeharag v’al yaavor.” Are Rav Yosef Dov Soloveitchik, and Rav Tzvi Yehuda Kook no longer gedolim? Within some corners of the Torah world, this ruling was very controversial, as many rabbis believe that Israel is engaged in a milchemes mitzvah (in which even a kallah must leave the chuppah to fight.)

  8. C’mon you guys, be real. She’s only “Chareidi” enough for the secular press (and YWN who fell in…). No Chareidi would consider her type Chareidi.
Why is it that any thief or scoundrel caught gets automatically upgraded to “Chareidi”?

  9. “Genug shoin with the narrow-mindedness! Have a little respect for people from other streams who take their yiddishkeit serious.” Were Beis Hillel and Beis Shamai narrow-minded? Were the Mechaber and the ReM”A narrow-minded? The Milchamas and the Ba’al HaMaor? Come on!!!

Ba’alei machlokes of all generations did not simply believe they are of “different streams.” They strongly believed they were right and that their p’sak represented the true ratzon HaShem. And when it WAS simply a matter of “different opinions” language such as “yeish l’hachmir” or “haMachmir talui alav berachah” or “anshei maaseh . . . ” etc. This was not the case with women joining the army.

Only David BenGurion had the audacity to tell the Chazon Ish that he didn’t know how to learn the Rambam that was brought as clear proof to his shitah. The law to draft women has never been enforced! Why would ANY bas Melech want to therefore serve in such a capacity?

HaRav Yoshe Ber z”l was a Gaon. But above and beyond his gaoness, was his inherent respect for talmidei chachomim and particular his uncle and grandfather. Likewise, it is well known that RAY”H Kook z”l sought the advice and p”sak of the Chazon Ish whom HaRav HaGaon Rav Chaim Ozer z”l, the undisputed RaSHKiBiHa”G, basically appointed as the posek for acheini beni Eretz Yisroel. There could therefore be no greater zilzul talmidei chachomim IF they indeed questioned the generally accepted p’sak that it is yehareig v’al yaavor to join the regular forces (which reportedly has the highest rate of abortions of all armies in the world).

  10. There is no Heter for people to engage in a debate on Torah while hiding behind stupid and silly pseudonyms! If you wish to express an opinion on Torah state your name and qualifications, if not shut up! Throwing around names of Gedolim does not make you a Godol beTorah. Nor does throwing around terminology; Chillu Hashem, Kiddush Hashem make you a Talmid Chacham. If you truly respect the Torah, take off your Purim masks and show your faces.

  11. Way to go, she showed all women that being frum does not interfere with serving your country! The issues of not serving has to do with the uniform and serving along side men, senuah, Those who speak against women serving in the army in a Torah fashion are probably same men who won’t serve themselves, shame on them
All Jews should recognize, even NuturaKarta, that any future battle is not about the political entity call Israel but about saving Jewish Lives. The enemy wants to wipe Israel/Jews off the map clearly making this a milchemes mitzvah for ALL Jews to serve!!

  12. Imagine the embarassment of the arab on the receiving end of this pilot’s guns. Of all ways to go, for them this is probably the most humiliating.

  13. A woman IAF flier…but…how can that be…my Rabbanum always tell me that women are not emotionally strong…that their very nature makes them suitable only for raising children and teaching in order to support their unemployed learning husbands…sacre bleu….how can this be?

  14. Yonason, whichever Rov told you that woman are not emotionally strong, did not know what he or she was talking about. While men may be stronger phisically, Woman are stronger emotionally.

  15. To: torahtotty – “. . . The issues of not serving has to do with the uniform and serving along side men, senuah, . . . ” Could I most humbly and respectfully request you read MK Shlomo Lorenz’ biographical series (Volume 1 I believe) the section on the Chazon Ish ztvk”l. It is clear that tziyus was one very small part of the issues and concerns.

“. . . Those who speak against women serving in the army in a Torah fashion are probably same men who won’t serve themselves, shame on them . . . ” Shame on the Chazon Ish? Are you not ashamed to write such words?

” . . . All Jews should recognize, even NuturaKarta, that any future battle is not about the political entity call Israel but about saving Jewish Lives. The enemy wants to wipe Israel/Jews off the map clearly making this a milchemes mitzvah for ALL Jews to serve!!” If someone is trying to kill me, it is NOT called a milchemes mitzvah even though it certainly is an inyan of pikuach nefesh. What is and what is not a milchemes mitzvah is up to rav to paksen.
