  1. Cute. I think there should also be tzedaka auctions for the first haircut after sefira, the first matzos out of the oven, the first grilled steak after the nine days, and the last parking spot on 13th Ave. every Erev Shabbos!

  2. It a great idea to raise money for charity, however it is a “Charpe & Busha” to be such a FRESSER to bid on a first Pizza.

Try to offer the same bid on other Mitzvos and good deeds, what kind of a Chinuch is this for our children.

  3. mcmurtrychris – you look like u have a hard time time falling asleep!! get a life, chill out and give lots of tzedaka – tzedaka tatzil memoves!!!!!!!!!

  4. mcmurtrychris RIGHT ON!
    Himmelstein is no Himmel Mench.
You…with “mc” and “chris” in your name has got it straight.

zero-You forgot about the first person to grab the washing machine-
in the country- after the nine days.

    Let’s be dan lekaf zechus….
Perhaps they intended to auction a “piece of matza” and the Italian said a “pizza matza”?

Chag Kosher -with all the chumros- “Vesameach”

  5. when does the winner gain possesion of the pizza, when the bidding is over? or when he/she picks it up? how can the store sell all the chometz it to a goy if he sold the ingredients of a pizza to a Jew? does the winner have to sell the this with hos chometz?

  6. you might have a problem with ownning chometz on pesach on pesach it is a machlokes between r` meir and rabanan if a davar shelo bo l`olam (something that doesn`t exist yet-the machlokes applies to something that grows) is able to be koneh. r` meir holds it can. if this auction ends after zman biur you have a problem. to whoever wins it if you want to be machmir like r` meir (who we don`t pasken like) you should sell it
PS if i am wrong please correct me
(i know at least someone won`t agree with me because we don`t pasken like r` meir)
by the way i will try to look it up to quote where it is from

  7. wow look at the amount of times the auction was veiwed it wen up over 1,500 since this morning maybe i will advertise on yeshiva world!!!!

  8. the machlokes is in mesechtas gitten nun bais amud bais at the bottom of the amud and on the top of nun gimel amud alef
    gitten 52:b-53:a

  9. mcmurtrychris, Your right !

himmelstein, I agree with you many times, but now I don’t.

I think, who ever bids on the right for the first pizza, has some serios issues.

Don’t these people have more important things to do with their time & money. COMMON GUYS, IS THAT HOW WE WANT TO BRING UP OUR CHILDREN.

  10. Susshow – It’s more than 1000% extra at this point. What it looks like is that people are amused by this so they are bidding high – the money is for tzedaka. The current bid level shows that this is not about the pie anymore.

BTW, the “need” for the first pie is no joke. People line up outside this store every year from the first minute after Pesach to buy pizza. Once, the person who was first in line (and got the first pie) walked out triumphantly and held it up high calling out “$100 if anyone wants to take this from me” and someone paid him $100.

  11. your not buying the actual pie its only “the right” to BUY the first pie! you still have to pay for the pie. thats the mashmaos 2 me

  12. mdlevine –

I thought of the same question, but then noticed how the sale is being offered.

The auction is for the ‘right to buy’ the first pie after YomTov, not to buy the pie in advance, which could be an issue.

The concpet is great, a true innovative marketing idea.

  13. mmc – maybe next year we can do it right and have an auction for the first matzo of the famous matzo bus

ok ok, I will try to cut out the matzo bus references in the future – we are probably all getting tired of this subject.

  14. oops i’m wrong you don’t have to pay extra for the pie (it’s included) but i still think its only the RIGHTS to buy the first pie that they are giving to the highest bidder (the person who WILL pay the most) your not zoche in the pie until you take possession of it.

agav i don’t think it’s nice to NEED to have dafke pizza RIGHT after yom tov

besides this defies the age old tradition (nuch fin heim) to wait in line for hours to get pizza motze pesach

  15. Why do you all have to be so cynical? Its a fun way to raise some Tzedakah and he is not selling the actual pizza to anyone so its not a problem he is just selling the right to get the first pizza. Stop analyzing it so much and go learn Torah instead of criticizing everyone else!

  16. we need to compose a new ‘ma nishtana’ halayla hazeh’ for
motaei pesach! it might start off with ‘shebechal halailos anu ochlin
kesha’ar benai adam, halayla hezeh kibehaimos!

  17. This may prove to be a great way to sell chometz. Maybe I should start an auction for all the chometz in my garage.

    Anyone willing to top $10.99?

  18. This Is Very Sad…. Is This What Pesach Is All About – Who Is Buying The First Peice Of Chametz Right Away The Second Yomtov Is Over???? Sadly, This Occurs Every Motzei Shabbos As Well, The Most Holy Day Of The Week Has Arrived And Literally Seconds After It Departs Everyone Is In Jeans, Running To The Car– “To Go Out”– I Must Say We Lost The Uniqeness That Makes Us Jews.

  19. I don’t understand. Kinyan or not if its lo ba leolam how can you be oiver on Pesach. Besides ebay is no kinyan. p.s. the auction clearly states that the pie is included. This reminds me of the goyim kicking the sukah.

  20. LayoM33 Says:

“This Is Very Sad…. Is This What Pesach Is All About – Who Is Buying The First Peice Of Chametz Right Away The Second Yomtov Is Over???? ”

Ignoring for a moment your agendized reference, I might point out that the minhag exists to make havdalla of motzoei pesach on beer, in order to show that we were holding ourselves back the whole yom tov l’shem mitzvah. By yearning for chometz we can show that were are actively keeping the mitzva of baal yiroeh the whole 8 days.

That said, I am also not from a place where it is vogue to stand on line for pizza. But I don’t think that personal feelings about the worthiness of a trend is reason to criticize. I don’t think chaleshing for pizza makes Jews un-unique (it’s really a ridiculous statement).

  21. LayoM33 – While I agree with you about Motzaei Shabbos, it is brought down that one should davka eat some chometz on Maotzaei Pesach. That is the minhag to make havadala on beer.

parshapotpourri – Your comment definitely takes the cake! We always need someone to interject some (good) humor. To everyone else the Matzo bus jokes are a little lame.

  22. Squeak-

I understand your point about the minhag to make havdalah on beer and I am not arguing that matter — my point is, is that its rather dissappointing to see so many yidden running out the second yomtov is over standing in lines for a measly peice of pizza– its like dogs who havent had food in weeks!!!! It belittles the kedusha that we just experienced. We are all like kings and this act definetly does not coincide with the charecteristics a king should posses.

  23. i’m telling you it’s unberlivable $630.00 for a pie of pizza it’s $630.00 know i’m telling you it’s gonno go up till 2000 unberlivable

  24. I’d just like to take this opportunity to wish the entire Klal Yisrael a Freilechen Pesach!

I heard from my Rebba—for Purim you should wish a Kasherin Purim, because Freilach it will definitely be but kosher??????
Pesach Kasher it will be-but will it be freilach??

(At least from the Nshie Chayil who stay at HOME for Yom Tov)

  25. Monseyguy- Look at the ebay listing. it Does NOT include shipping. I guess you will have to make arrangments to stay in bklyn for the last days. You could walk to the store from monsey, there is no Tichum issue. For someone who wants it so badly, you do what you have to do!

  26. To all the people who are ripping this auction

I know the person who is running this auction and Judah Cohen who owns Pizza Time and it’s big mitzvah what he is doing by giving all the money made from this auction will be given to the sephardic bikur cholim. People who win the bid are not owning chometz at least I don’t understand how thats possible considering that the pizza which is chometz will not be made and does not exist until Motzei Pesach.

  27. Gemorokop;
You right there IS an inyan of eating Chometz right after Pesach and making Havdallah on beer. But its a CHASSIDER minhag.

  28. nameless, please do us all a favor.

Kindly get your FACTS together before making a fool of yourself.
The Vilna Goen made Havdallah on Beer. Last I checked he was not a C’hsid.

  29. Nameless, you have an ans. for everything, don’t you? If you would work on the midah of not constantly wanting to be right, (as you can NEVER be wrong) you would be able to engage in more constructive activities other then posting on the Yeshiva world 24/6.

    Think about that.

Besides, what is wrong with despising Sheker? Perhase YW editor should despise the Sheker, not the person?

  30. Nameless: I think you should stop posting on Y.W. if you have something against him because on a diffrent site I had something against the way the person wrote things on so I stopped writing on it unless I wrote BDE, (Baruch Dayen…) RS (Refuah Sh…) etc… but I didn’t write more than a sentence or two know the person fixed the mistake when he saw I was right but I hardly write I just look. CKP (Chag Kosherin Pesach)!!

  31. Nisht Ahe…..
Got nothing agaisnt him! Didnt know that the V’G MADE HAVADALLH on beer Motzei YT. It was a mistake and I apologized!

    Susshow.
I think you should work on your self esteem! You constantly fly off the handle’ when someone responds against your beliefs. If your so complexed maybe you shouldnt post at all!

But in this case you were just choished me of lying when it was an innocent mistake…..another ATTRIBUTE OF YOURS! work on it and have a good Y’T.

  32. Everyone who is ripping this auction needs to get themselves a life. If you dont like it, dont partiticpate , however dont shamble it. There is more that can be halachically wrong believe it or not with wearing a black hat on Shabbat than giving charity to earn the rights to a pizza.
There are opinions that hold that the more common hats today have brims which are too large and thus are considered “ohel” and therefore you sometimes will see people in the street with a very small brim on Shabbat. Last time I checked though, eating chametz AFTER pesach is fine, and giving $ to Sephardic Bikur Holim which is a wonderful organization is also fine.
IVE SAID THIS MANY TIMES BEFORE IN DIFFERENT WORDS, IF YOU ARE SOOO FRUM THAT YOU CANNOT FATHOM SUCH AN AUCTION AND THINK IT IS SO TERRIBLE THEN YOU SHOULDNT BE ON A COMPUTER ONLINE YOU SHOULD HAVE YOURE HEAD BURIED ALL DAY IN A GEMARA.
Happy Pesach, I hope you dont have nightmares about this auction on yom tov

  33. Regardless of the auction, I think the idea behind it is worng. The auction itself to raise money for tzedakah is very fine but the pizza/motzei yomtov— that TO ME isn’t.

  34. i wouldnt be surprised if some of you were 10 year olds! you must stop this childish bickering! leave nameless alone! he made a mistake! this is why the bais hamikdash was destroyed! i think im going to cry!
