JUST IN: Lawyer Suspected In Massive Ponzi-Scheme Lands In Florida


scamn1.jpg6:00PM EST: Prominent Broward attorney Scott Rothstein, who is under federal investigation for alleged fraud, has returned to town and Fort Lauderdale police officers have been posted at his law firm’s building at 401 E. Las Olas Blvd. Rothstein is being investigated by his own firm which claims $500 million is missing from its accounts.

On Monday, the politically influential firm attempted to oust Rothstein amid the criminal investigation into his business dealings.

Fort Lauderdale police spokesman Sgt. Frank Sousa said the department received a call Tuesday afernoon from the law firm with “a security concern,” so they sent officers to the office. He said they would not prevent Rothstein from entering the firm.

“He is allowed to go to his office,” Sousa said.

A court hearing is set for 4:30 regarding who will sort out the firm’s finances.

Federal authorities on Monday stepped up their criminal investigation into Rothstein, 47, who is suspected of operating a Ponzi scheme by selling hundreds of millions of dollars in fabricated legal settlements to investors – many Frum prominet Baalei tzedakah in the NYC area.
