Calls to Oust High School Principal who Endorses Insubordination

MK (Yisrael Beitenu) Alex Miller has turned to Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai and Minister of Education Gideon Saar on Tuesday morning with an urgent request, to oust a city high school principal who in talks with students encourages insubordination in the military. He also turned to the chairman of the Knesset Education Committee, MK (HaBayit HaYehudi) Zevulun Orlev, to convene an urgent session to address this alarming situation.

Miller is referring to Rom Cohen, who stands at the helm of the Tichon Aleph High School in Tel Aviv. Miller, who is a member Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman’s right-wing coalition party, stated “I do not even wish to imagine what the outcry would be if the school in question was affiliated with the right-wing”, well-aware that the guardians of democracy are deafened when the violations are committed by members of the political left.

The issue is one of extreme sensitivity at present following the Har Bracha Hesder Yeshiva affair, which resulted in Defense Minister Ehud Barak ousting the yeshiva from the hesder network due to statements made by the rosh yeshiva, Rabbi Eliezer Melamed, encouraging soldiers to disobey orders that contradict their Torah way of life.

In this case, the radical left-wing school principal has spoken out against the IDF, using vehement terms, expressing his support and sympathy for the “Palestinian cause”. Miller rejects any school principal seeking to influence students with his/her own political agenda, stating such actions are and should be deemed unacceptable and in this case, immediate action is warranted.
