Social Security Administration To Purchase 174 Thousand Rounds Of Hollow Point Bullets

First it was the Department of Homeland Security, then it was the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and now the Social Security Administration is set to purchase 174,000 rounds of hollow point bullets that will be delivered to 41 locations across the country.

A solicitation posted by the SSA on the FedBizOpps website asks for contractors to supply 174,000 rounds of “.357 Sig 125 grain bonded jacketed hollow point pistol ammunition.”

An online ammunition retailer describes the bullets as suitable “for peak performance rivaling and sometimes surpassing handloads in many guns,” noting that the ammo is “a great personal defense bullet.”

The synopsis to the solicitation adds that the ammunition is to be shipped to 41 locations within 60 days of purchase. A separate spreadsheet lists those locations, which include the Social Security headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland as well as major cities across the country including Los Angeles, Detroit, Oklahoma City, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Denver, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Seattle.

  1. This is to help the social security program from going bankrupt and also enable Obama to continue the process of stealing (borrowing) money from the SS funds. Kill all those receiving benefits and no more problem with bankruptcy!!! Brilliant plan, Obama!!!!!!!!

  2. Could be for their security guards?

Or maybe a new expedited dispute resolution procedure???

Or perhaps so the death panels will be ready to get to work after the election??????????

  3. I fail to find such a posting on the FedBizOpps and none of the reputable news services have the story which is exclusivly on far right wing blogs.

    It’s fiction.

  4. It may only be on right wing blogs, but that’s not because its not true. Try putting in SSA-RFQ-12-1851 which is the solicitation number. The date on the solicitation is August 7, so you may have to scroll back to find the actual Request for Quote for Ammunition. Now, if only the ‘reputable’ news services would take note, maybe we could find out an answer as to why they are buying them.

  5. The rounds are for the OIG inspectors to qualify (yes they are armed). Read the fedbizops info and it tells you who they are sending it to. This is normal and not some gov end all of your freedoms thing. In fact you will find this type of order happnes all the time with any agency that has armed officers. They have to qualify annually.

  6. I found the posting. It probably is for their own security. Except for the legislative branch agencies on Capitol Hill (such as the COngress and the Library of Congress), each agency does its own security, and Social Security does have a large number of offices nationwide.

    But it sure sounds funny.
