Bratton Says He Can’t Serve 2 Terms As NYPD Commissioner

bratNew York City police Commissioner William Bratton says he can’t serve two terms — even if Mayor Bill de Blasio is re-elected.

Bratton said Thursday that he would not be commissioner for 6½ years, in part because he would be 75 years old.

De Blasio said Bratton is doing a great job and can serve as long as it feels right for him.

Bratton was speaking at a panel held by the website City & State.

He said he and de Blasio have been setting goals for the next “several” years.

Bratton took the helm in 2014 amid calls for reform and new oversight. A federal monitor was tasked with overseeing changes to the department’s stop and frisk tactic.

Bratton was also NYPD commissioner in the 1990s.
