Most PA & Gaza Residents Support Rocket Fire into Israel


kasA poll conducted among residents of PA (Palestinian Authority) autonomous areas throughout Yehuda, Shomron and Gaza reveals the feeling that Hamas emerged the victor in Operation Protective Edge is waning. When asked, 80% of the respondents expressed support for renewing rocket fire into Israeli population centers. The poll was taken by the Palestinian Peace Coalition a few days ago, questioning 1,200 residents 18 and older.

Satisfaction over the reported Hamas victory has waned in recent weeks. 49% of respondents are satisfied with Hamas accomplishments in the warfare, down from 59% a month ago. 69% of respondents feel Hamas emerged the victor in the warfare as compared to 79% in the previous poll.

80% of respondents feel that if Israel continues the blockade on Gaza the rocket fire into Israel communities should continue.

When Gaza and PA residents were asked to evaluate other players in the conflict, 21% stated Egypt’s involvement in peace-making efforts as positive and 57% feel Egypt’s involvement had a negative influence. When asked which nation should flip the bill for rehabilitating Gaza, 30% point to Israel, 24% to Western nations, 23% Arab nations, 10% from tax revenue and 10% feel Hamas should pay.

72% of the respondents support Abu Mazen’s plan to end the Israeli occupation and declare the State of Palestine. 42% feel the plan has a moderate or greater chance of success while 58% feel less confident it will succeed. 53% support the two-state solution while 46% are opposed. 56% oppose recognizing Israel as a Jewish state while only 41% support it.
