Great Neck Synagogue Cancels Speech by Pamela Geller

cancelThe Great Neck Synagogue has cancelled a planned talk Sunday by activist Pamela Geller, Geller announced Wednesday.

“Due to relentless intimidation, bullying and threats, the Great Neck Synagogue is cancelling my talk,” said Geller to Patch. “It is a very sad day for freedom-loving peoples when fascist tactics trump free speech.”

A coordinated campaign by prominent officials to cancel Geller’s appearence has been underway since last month.

Geller said she received the following statement from synagogue officials, cancelling her invitation to speak to the synagogue’s men’s club on the “Imposition of Sharia in America.”

“As the notoriety and media exposure of the planned program this Sunday have increased, so has the legal liability and potential security exposure of our institution and it’s [sic] member families. In an era of heightened security concerns it is irresponsible to jeopardize the safety of those who call Great Neck Synagogue home, especially our children, even at the risk of diverting attention from a potentially important voice in the ongoing debate. Accordingly, the Great Neck Synagogue Men’s Club will no longer be sponsoring the appearance of Pamela Geller this coming Sunday, and no event will be taking place in our facility.”

Geller said while she understands the synagogue’s action, she deplores the cancellation of her “message of freedom.”

“This incident shows how urgently this topic needs to be discussed. Leftist thugs, pushed and prodded by Islamic supremacist Habeeb Ahmed and his co-conspirators, threatened a march on the shul (among other things),” said Geller to Patch.

Labeling Geller the “personification of an Islamophobe,” Ahmed, a Nassau Commission on Human Rights member, recommended a petition of the Stationary of Council of Churches, The Interfaith Alliance and Holocaust Center against Geller, according to emails from the interfaith group posted on Geller’s Atlas Shrugs blog.

“In mosques and Islamic centers, the most vitriolic jihad supporters and preachers of hate speak freely, said Geller, but “my work that has been consistently in defense of human rights is not allowed to be given a hearing.”

Geller was set to be introduced by Greg Buckley, Sr., whose 21-year-old son, Marine Lance Cpl. Greg Buckley was killed in August while serving in Afghanistan. Buckley Sr. is calling for justice in the murder of his son and is seeking prosecution on American soil.

  1. I understand the synagogue’s position, and I understand Geller’s position. The synagogue is worried (rightly so) about becoming a target of these Islamic facists. Geller should be given a forum, but not in a building likely to become a target. However, given that any building can become a target of these facists, perhaps the only safe place is the internet. Maybe every synagogue in America should email all their member email addresses, the text of whatever she would say in her speech.

  2. Are those people which are upset with Geller getting cancelled, the same ones that are pressuring Cardozo to cancel Jimmy Carter? Sorry folks, you can’t have it both ways. Either you support free speech, or you don’t.

  3. voseppes: I do not know who you are but your comments show a total ignorance of the actual facts: Jimmy Carter is receiving AN AWARD (called Man of Peace, improbably). It has absolutely nothing to do with free speech. President Carter can continue spewing his illogical comments anytime- and, no doubt, he will. Pamela Geller was going to give A SPEECH!!That appearance was cancelled, leading to charges of stifling free speech.

  4. The TRUTH HURTS and Geller gives you the truth in an accurate and articulate manner. The world is being led by the Jew hating, Islamist admirers and we are in it over our head.

  5. Voseppes: you obviously have left wing attitudes and are probably against racial profiling or what should really be called criminal profiling as it is the best way to catch the bad guys. Islamopobia is incorrectly labed a phobia implying that fear of islam is unwarranted. almost exclusively all of the worlds terrorism is caused by islamist who are supported by so called moderate islamist so its not a phobia but rather a recognition of who the enemy is.

  6. This woman is an outright fascist and keeps company with various notorious European fascist groups.

BTW, most of the world’s terrorism is being carried out by the US-centered global imperialism and its allies, the Zionist colonial state being one of the major players in this bloody game, while the rest of terrorism in mostly caused by imperialism.

Jimmy Carter is just another bourgeois capitalist figure. There is hardly anything “left-wing” about him, besides some reasonable criticism of Israel.
