Petira of 12-Year-Old Motl Brody Z”L

candle9.gifYWN regrets to inform you of the Petira of 12-year-old Motl Brody Z”L after a long illness. The story of Motl Brody had made national headlines when the hospital he was in had declared him braindead – and were seeking a court-order to have him removed from life support.

YWN had initiated a massive campaign to pressure the hospital, by sending emails and calling the hospital demanding that they don’t remove the life-support. This campaign was successful to the extent that the hospital reached out to YWN asking us to stop people from calling.

Sadly, he was Niftar on Friday night (midnight). The Levaya details will be posted as soon as they are made available to us.

  1. THERE IS NO COMMENT THAT CAN POSSIBLE BE SAID TO SUCH A SAD STORY ECXCEPT “HAMOKOM YINACHEM ESCHEM BSOCH SHAR AVEILE TZION BYIRUSHLAYIM”

  2. ברוך דין האמת What a sad way for klal Yisroel to start the week. May his neshomo find peace in Gan Eden.
    May his family have nechomo

  3. I’m sorry to hear that he was niftar. Can i ask a dumb question please. If a person is hooked up to machines to keep him breathing and they are stimulating his heart somehow to keep it beating despite his being “brain dead” what happens when the person really does die?
    Thanks.
May the family see no more tzaar and I’m sorry if the question is not appropriate.

  4. The family is overwhelmed by the chizuk and tfillos from Klal Yisroel. Please do not post details of levaya as it can turn the Levaya into a media event. Shenishma vnisbaser bsoiros toivis

  5. Baruch Dayan Ha’emes. I want to thank Agudath Israel as well as Mr. Zuckerman for their efforts for the Brody Family, and to all those who called and emailed the hospital to show their support for the Family. I wish my condolonces to the Brody family on the loss of Motl Zl.

  6. boruch dayan emes.
may the family not know of any more tzoros.
it is encouraging to see the family being strengthend by the ‘tzibur’ who took interest into the details , called the hospital and got them to hold off from disconnecting the life support machines.
we should hear good news in the future.

  7. Baruch Dayan Emes. May Hashem console the family and may we not know of any Tzaros. Also,# 3, I think the Rabbanim know what they are talking about when they say a person is not completely dead unless his heart stops beating. Also, you can’t blame the Rabbanim for his death. His time was up and that is it. We did our histadlus and called the hospital, emailed etc. The rest is up to Hashem.

  8. #3 – There IS a consensus by our Gedolim as to what constitues death – and braindead is NOT dead! The problem only arises when the Goyish hospitals/doctors don’t agree with this and don’t want to respect our Torah’s views.

  9. Boruch Dayan Emes, May the family be comforted. It is known that it is a special Aliya for the neshama to be nifter on shabbos.

  10. Boruch Dayan Hoemes…
there is just one thing that we have to say, that boruch hashem the hospital didn’t win, he wa niftar al pi hashem and not al pi the hospital.
hamokom yenachem eschem besoch sh;or availai tzion v’yerusholaim………………

  11. Response to YiddishaKupp #15: Actually, there is NOT a consensus, many respected poskim feel that brain death is a valid halachic definition of death.
