Senator Charles Schumer Sells Out to Support Same-Gender Marriage

Schu2.jpgJacob S. Kassin, son of Brooklyn’s Syrian Sephardic Chief Rabbi, Rav Saul Kassin Shlita, is continuing to take an active stance against Senator Charles Schumer’s support for same-gender marriage. Currently, Kassin is recommending that all people interested in contributing to Schumer’s reelection campaign reconsider unless the senator recants his newfound support for same-gender marriage.

In April, Kassin wrote a very direct ‘public’ letter to Sen. Schumer, which appeared in a Brooklyn-based Jewish newspaper. The letter was a passionate response to the March 24th; NY Times article that announced Schumer’s new view in favor of same-gender marriage.

“Go see and read the Torah, Leviticus, Chapter 8,” Kassin wrote in the letter before continuing on to add, “Your actions have fired us up with your ominous support for such degenerate, freaks and queers.”

Within the letter, Kassin also wrote, “As a member of the Jewish nation, I pray you gird yourself with the courage to readdress, reconsider and reshape the vital principles of the Torah, and negotiate and push aside both strong and all those who penetrated you with this sin.”

Sen. Schumer’s New York and D.C offices have received letter.

  1. What about Sheldon Silver? Why are Agudah and all the other Orthodox Jewish organizations that honor him (because they benefit from him) not protesting against him publically?

  2. Schumer is a secular Jews. Why would he even consider alienating his own people by opposing a law that is critical to them (ever ask why the numbers of Reform and Conservative Jews are falling – this is not unrelated).

The article would make sense if directed at someone who represents a largely frum district or someone who is personally frum.

  3. Hey Chuckie, shame on you. You were supposed to be a good Jewish boy. How could you have the position that you do?

Well, I guess I can’t expect better given Shelly Silver’s vote last week on immoral unions.

  4. There are more degenerates, freaks, and queers than Torah Jews in New York. Schumer sold out to nobody. He knows where his bread is buttered. Everyone seems to forget he is a career pol.

  5. Rabosai: The picture says it all. The moderators/editors chose a most appropriate picture for this article, that has a “Self Serve” sign (most likely from a gas station) pointing in the direction of Senator Chuck __insert_nickname_here__ Schumer.

  6. The article is very relevant. But, I wish it included the exact number of dollars that the Kassin rabbi and family contributed to Schumer’s campaign. Because I know for a fact that they donated at least over a million dollars.

On another note, while many of us are not for this same-sex marriage. It comes at no surprise that there are those that are always going to think outside of the box, even if it conflicts with the teaching in Torah. Sadly, we have to get back to our roots.

  7. In related news, the “Honorable” Chucky Schumer was a surprise guest speaker at the Agudah’s annual dinner last night.

Besides for making an utter fool of himself as he tried to show off how many Hebrew words he knows, he mentioned the unforgettable “Rabbi Moshe Sherrer, shlit”a”. Ha.

Then Chucky had the gall to go on and tell the crowd that his last name is really “Shomer”, (which was Americanized in Ellis Island or something). He mentioned this tidbit of his family history in order to point out that he is a “shomer”, a watchman of the Jewish people and will stand up for us.

Well, Mr Schumer, NOW IS THE TIME TO STAND UP FOR THE JEWISH PEOPLE! HOW DARE YOU ADDRESS US LAST NIGHT IN FRONT OF THE GEDOLEI YISROEL AND OUR LAY LEADERS AND PROCLAIM THAT YOU ARE A SHOMER WHEN YOU GO AND UNDERMINE THE MORAL FABRIC OF THIS COUNTRY ON A DAILY BASIS WITH YOUR FAR LEFT WING AGENDA?

    You make me sick.

(And I am dissapointed in the Agudah, an organization I have the utmost admiration and gratitude for, for inviting both Schumer and Bloomberg to the dinner. Both are Jews that are both pushing for to’eva “marriage” which is an anathema to us as Jews. How can we pay homage to the people who pose a grave threat to our society? When do we stand up and say no, we will not honor you, even if it means losing your support and help with programs, bcause this is a key issue for our community?!)

  8. #5 – The “self serve” sign is when he helps us. Nothing in Mr. Schumer’s background suggests any emotional or other attachment to Torah Judaism.

#6 – Mr. Schmuer hasn’t been in a contested election since he was first elected to the Senate.
Other than to bribe him to be nice to us, why would anyone donate money to him.

  9. Response to # 6. According to the Federal Election Committee (online) people with the last name Kassin have given exactly $1,000 to Senator Schumer in the last ten years (on 12/31/02). Not exactly a lot of money. See details below:

    KASSIN, JACK A
    DEAL, NJ 07723
    BEST BRANDS
    Sen. Schumer, Charles E. (D-N.Y.)
    FRIENDS OF SCHUMER
    $1,000, 12/13/2002
    Individual Contribution to Candidate

  10. Agudas Yisroel has aterrible conflict of interest, with respect to Government programs in the millions of dollars.

Since these programs are secured through politicians, like Schumer and Bloomberg, the Aguda feels compelled to repay these politicians in the political currency of free publicity and honors at their dinners.

They are guilty of the same scandalous behavior as the University of Notre Dame, a Catholic college, who invited Obama to receive an honorable degree at its commencement exercises, despite his open promotion of partial-birth abortion, a procedure that is anathema to religious Catholics.

It’s about time tht the leaders of Aguda stopped embarrassing the Gedolei Yisroel by seating these low-life politicians next to them at public events.

Aguda should take care of its business with Lieberman, Schumer, Silver, and Bloomberg in their Government office. They will get what’s coming to them, because they represent a solid and growing community of Orthodox Jews.

There is no need for groveling and sychofancy.

  11. anyone who supports any of these clowns who support same sex ‘marriage’ should have their heads examined.

  12. aryeh111 (n0. 14)–“correct spelling… sycophancy.”

Thank you Aryeh. I was just testing you to make sure you were pei-ing attention.

  13. Why do you say he “SOLD OUT”?

    The exact opposite is true.

At the fact that the ENTIRE MOETZES was sitting on the dais, and said NOT ONE WORD OF PROTEST to Rabbi Zweibel allowing this unscheduled speaker, shows aquiesence to Mr. Schumer’s vocal position on this issue.

Mr. Schumer “BOUGHT IN” to Agudah’s feelings on this matter. The Chillul Hashem is astounding. This Chillul Hashem will surely be repaid, and rear its ugly head and bite us.

Why should the Kessin family protest to Mr. Schumer? Call the Agudah office first.

An embarrassing day to be a frum Jew.‎

  14. At the Aguda dinner, the Novominsker said sharf against people like Chucky Schumer. I am sure YWN will post those comments soon.

  15. Just remember what happened in Chumash to governments who sanctioned immorality.
You think it’s an accident that there’s
a huge fault line underneath SF?

  16. Last I checked, the Torah’s terminology regarding “mishkav zachor,” is “toevah.” I am not sure at what point a lashon of “freaks” was adopted, and I question within our chinuch world, whether it is wise.

  17. It’s time for Schumer to go! Supporting him financially is out of the question! We are not in control of the world, but we ARE in control of our own decisions. Let’s do our utmost to stand up for what WE believe in: Hashem and His Tora!

  18. 20: Actually the pasuk you quote lists a few “Toeivas” not just one.

Just wondering: is one of them listed nasty abusive language toward a fellow Jew?

If so, we can have a parade for the commenters!

It would be called “the Toeiva parade”
