Herzliya: Concerns Over Youths Becoming Frum

An urgent town hall meeting was held by the Herzliya PTA, attended by Mayor Yael German, permitting participants to express their concerns surrounding the alarming trend, an increasing number of the city’s teens are returning to the fold, beginning to observe Torah and Mitzvos. Also present was the deputy mayor, Tova Rafael. The event was not well attended according to a Kikar Shabbat report.

Some of the parents lamented that their children have left their schools and homes to attend a religious yeshiva. A number of psychologists advised parents how to combat ‘the dangerous trend’ of becoming frum.

Nissin Maskil, who heads the city’s PTA, is concerned and calling on city agencies to act. He points out that at present, officials are simply ignoring the dangers, the meetings between different teens in the city, calling upon the education system to prevent meetings between religious and non-religious students.

  1. Thought control. The Thought Police are alive, well & living in Herzilya. Stating the obvious, becoming criminals, drug addicts & low-lives is preferable to being responsible, frum citizens who raise fine families in a moral structure? How sad.

  2. They really have big problems, their children no longer go out and get drunk on Shabbos or get stoned out of their mind. This is big problems. Their children no longer want an empty life fill of just materialism and nothing else. The kids don’t need help their parents do

  3. Ms. German and Mr. Maskil, don’t just wring your hands wondering why these things are happening to you, be proactive – go get your mezuzos checked!

  4. “Ms. German and Mr. Maskil, don’t just wring your hands wondering why these things are happening to you, be proactive – go get your mezuzos checked!”

You forgot the punchline: “Go get your mezuzos checked – perhaps they’re kosher!”

  5. They are just parents who don’t know what all of this means. Unfortunately, they have no idea what being religious is other than what they see on TV and read in the newspapers. So, instead of name calling, get out there and help these people feel comfortable with their children’s new lifestyle. Instead of loosing a child, they will gain a more than a half-dozen grand-children. When you pick on the names, remember that there are very respectable people with the same name. German = the man who was instrumental in helping find Leiby Kletzki.
