Will The Rishon L’Tzion Step Down To Save Shas?

Will Rishon L’Tzion Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef Shlita step down to assist in advancing the Shas party agenda? Some believe that Rav Yosef must step down from the senior civil service post to assist Shas rehabilitate itself ahead of elections. He cannot do so while serving as a public servant.

In the conversation, activists close to Shas chairman, Minister Aryeh Deri added: “Every time we hang an announcement about an event in which the Rishon L’Tzion will take part, thousands will come, exactly as it was with his father, Maran ZT”L, twenty-thirty years ago. He brings electricity into the air. His position in the Shas leadership will bring back the passion that was lacking in the movement’s meetings. ”

According to the report, Deri responded: “Friends, perhaps do not give advice to Israel’s great people?”

Later on, the subject of peace among the Sephardim came to the table. Deri told his confidants: “You understand, friends, the Sephardi peace is in the interest of Shas, not of anyone else. If we are the objects of life, we have to do everything in order for peace to prevail. ”

Deri went on to say, “What a ruin the division among the Litvish camp has caused us. We are Sephardim, we are not Ashkenazim and we are not built for war.”
