Ichud Hatzalah Responders Take On Firefighting Responsibilities

Ichud Hatzalah responders are widening the scope of their first-response assistance and from now on, when a member of the ambu-cycle team arrives on the scene, if the situation warrants, they will be armed with a Mag-Nur fire extinguisher that in many cases can save lives and prevent serious injuries from burns.

Members of the scooter first-response teams were given a demonstration in front of the organization’s national headquarters in Jerusalem. Security agencies in Israel have purchased a quantity of the unit after realizing its ease of use and lifesaving capabilities.

Ichud officials are well-aware of their limitations and are in no way seeking to assume the role of firefighters, but because IH personnel are often first on a scene, it was decided to equip responders with this light weight device which can save lives.

The device uses potassium to extinguish a blaze, and it is non-toxic and automatic, requiring one to only direct the flow in the correct direction.

After receiving a donation of a quantity of the extinguishers, the decision was made to distribute them to responders with the hope that they are never required.

  1. IH is usually not first on scene, and oftentimes is not even on scene because they don’t respond. From someone in Israel:
“If you call MDA, you’ll get MDA and sometimes IH, if you call IH, you will not get MDA and you may or may not get IH.”
