NYPD Disciplines 229 After Misconduct Claims

nypdrgThe city’s police watchdog group says 229 officers were disciplined following complaints of misconduct in 2012.

The Civilian Complaint Review Board released its annual report for 2012 Tuesday. Last year, people filed 5,763 complaints — 3 percent fewer than the prior year. The number of officers disciplined dropped slightly from an all-time high in 2011. Stop and frisk complaints accounted for about 30 percent of the total. The data shows people are most likely to complain about a street encounter if they were searched.

The CCRB says officers documented searches in 9 percent of the encounters, but complaints on improper searches accounted for about half of all complaints related to stops. The NYPD stopped 533,042 people in 2012.
