Rav Yaakov Asher Addresses the 8th Annual Hamodia Conference

bbmYahadut Hatorah MK Yaakov Asher addressed the eighth annual Hamodia Conference in the Jerusalem Convention Center on Tuesday, 24 Tammuz 5773. Following is a synopsis of his remarks.

Asher feels that while the tzibur faces difficult days, he does not believe fear and apprehension is the way to go. “HKBH is testing us and we definitely must do a cheshbon nefesh. After many years of a relatively good position in the coalition, Hashem is testing us and we must fulfill ours”.

Asher draws a comparison to the director of an institution who operates internally and externally, using the latter to raise funds and the inner is where he directs his koach towards maintaining the institution as it must be. This he feels is a lesson for the chareidi tzibur today, and “We must be strong towards those outside and the chizuk must be focused at the inner, to strengthen our tefilos, love for one another, unity and of course, limud Torah.”

Towards the outside as he put it, “there are those wishing to attack the chareidi lifestyle”, Asher explains, adding “we must study and learn every paragraph and sentence in their plan and defeat them on their own court.”

“We must send them a clear message, that they will not succeed in defeating us. Our tzibur was raised on mesirus nefesh. We will continue with our limud and the ways of the Torah. We have Siyata Dishmaya…”

There is a complete freeze on construction in the eastern part of Jerusalem, and local authorities in Judea and Samaria are not advancing building permits. The yeshiva worlds of all sectors are hard hit.

“I believe that a political union between Bennett and Lapid is in the offing and that they will run for the next Knesset together. We must prepare for this,” he warned. “Bennett will try to use the Bayit Yehudi party as a ‘shelf party.’”

“For these reasons, I am receiving many requests to put my hat back in the ring. This may yet happen, to bring about a leadership that is not just political but also has a vision’
