Deadline Nears To Review Superstorm Sandy Flood Claims

sanTime is running out for homeowners seeking to challenge their Superstorm Sandy flood damage claims.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s deadline for making such filings is Thursday.

More than 144,000 homeowners participating in the National Flood Insurance Program suffered a loss in the storm that hit in October 2012. The majority of those policyholders settled their claims long ago, but FEMA has allowed all of them to ask for their claim to be reviewed following complaints that many homeowners were underpaid.

Requests can be made at www.fema.gov/hurricane-sandy-nfip-claims or by phone at 866-337-4262.

As of last week, more than 16,000 policyholders had asked for a review.

The federal flood insurance program has paid out more than $8 billion to cover Sand-related damage.
