WoW Calling To Activate Egalitarian Prayer Area Near The Kosel

2Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Wednesday 24 Iyar met with representative of the Reform and Conservative Movements visiting from N. America. Israeli representatives of the organizations also took part in the meeting as well as Jewish Agency Natan Sharansky and representatives of the Woman of the Wall (WoW) organization.

Earlier this week, chareidi MKs visited the area to get a first-hand look at the area ahead of the Prime Minister’s meeting with the leaders of the Reform Movement, who are here to pressure Mr. Netanyahu into continuing advancing their agenda as the cabinet and Knesset have in recent months.

While the cabinet has voted to allocate the egalitarian prayer area, the chareidim have back-tracked, stating their will continue to wage a tenacious battle against any effort to advance the agenda of the Reform and Conservative Movements.

The Prime Minister was to have presented his plan at the end of a sixty-day period, that expired at the end of May, but he was not ready and the period to develop the plan has been extended indefinitely. In the interim, leaders of the Reform and Conservative Movements are seeking assurances from Mr. Netanyahu that the progress made in the last year will not be undone, which is what the chareidi parties vow to do.

  1. We, ha’niduchim b’chutz l’aretz, don’t have to put up with this narishkeit. So “aliyah” (“yeridah”) activists tell us we should pull up stakes and immigrate to the “Holy Land”. What, exactly, is the net gain there? Respondents, please spare me the Zionist prop wash.
