Bnei Brak Mayor Refuses To Comply With Histadrut Demands


hzBnei Brak Mayor Chanoch Zeibert is not having an easy time with representative of the Histadrut national labor federation, with the latter recently announcing a planned strike in the city beginning on 18 Kislev.

The mayor met with labor representatives on Monday evening 5 Kislev, but they were unable to reach any agreement. It is reported the mayor was adamant in his refusal to comply with Histadrut requests pertaining to kindergarten teachers and their assistants.

The mayor’s statement reads “With all the understanding and appreciation for the activities off the Histadrut, the Bnei Brak Municipality cannot meet the demands regarding objections from the kindergarten teachers and assistants regarding city-sponsored camps on Chanukah after checking into the legality of this with the city’s legal experts and the Union of Local Government. In addition, some of the assistants employed in recent years signed agreement to work on holidays” explains Avraham Tannenbaum, a municipal secretary and spokesperson. As a result, the treat of a strike continues to loom over the city.
