Deri Explains Why He Did Not Enter The Interior Ministry Immediately Following Elections

1Shas party leader explains why following Knesset elections he did not seek to enter the Interior Ministry immediately as most predicted he would do. He explained that former Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein advised him to enter another minister instead of returning to the Interior Ministry and then make the change at some point.

Speaking to party leaders during a Shabbos event, Deri explained during seudas shlishis , the process involved in his return to the political arena after the last elections. At the time, the Movement for Quality Government threatened to petition the High Court if Deri returns to the Interior Ministry, leading him to consult with Weinstein. Weinstein, who was going to have to defense the government position, suggested in would be easier for him to defend a Deri appointment to an office other than the Interior Ministry, where he served before being tried and convicted of fraud.
