Tuesday Morning News Briefs from Eretz Yisrael


20:10 Monday night:

IDF soldiers arrested an Arab motorist found to be transporting an explosive device in his vehicle. He was apprehended at the Bekaot Checkpoint in the Jordan Valley area. The bomb was neutralized without incident.

22:15 Monday night:

Firebombs and rocks hurled at IDF soldiers in the el-Aroub area in the Gush Etzion district. One soldier was very lightly injured by rocks.

09:00:

Amram Mitzne of The Movement party announced “we are not afraid to sit in the opposition” during a Galei Tzahal (Army Radio) interview.

09:12:

Labor leader Shelly Yacimovich is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Wednesday. She told the media she has no plans of entering the new coalition.

Avigdor Lieberman appears to be signaling that he is not giving up the Foreign Ministry portfolio.

It appears the Moetzas Gedolei Hatorah of Agudas Yisrael is in favor of trying to convene with the Degel Hatorah Gedolim towards achdus.

12:00:

Rabbi Avraham Rubinstein officially became the new mayor of Bnei Brak yesterday as former Mayor Rabbi Yaakov Asher will be sworn into Knesset as a Yahadut Hatorah MK today.

12:15:

The 19th Knesset convenes today as the 120 MKs will take the oath of office, including 48 new MKs. In the interim, coalition talks continue towards establishing a ruling majority and assigning ministerial posts.

13:00:

20-year-old resident of Elon Moreh banned from his home and Yehuda and Shomron for a year as a result of military administrative order simply stating the ban is “for security reasons.”

13:03:

A number of vehicles in an Arab village near Ofra in Shomron targeted with graffiti, arson and windows smashed during the night. Graffiti includes “Jewish blood is not cheap”, “Price Tag” and “Tapuach = Kahane”.
