Yassam Cop Convicted of Assault in Amona Expulsion

(Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008)

The Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court on Monday morning handed down a guilty verdict against Yassam officer David Attia who was found guilty of assault.

The charges stem from the unjustifiable violence used against unarmed protestors at Amona, whom were forcibly evicted from the area by police in February 2006.

In this particular case, it was documented that the defendant head-butted a victim with his helmet and used other unjustifiable force, leading to the conviction. The court stated the evidence in the case in no way justified the actions of the defendant.

On his way out of the courtroom, the defendant was handed another lawsuit charging him with unjustifiable violence in the very same Amona expulsion.
