Amid the storm over mixed units in the IDF and rabbonim speaking out against serving in such units, HaGaon HaRav Dov Lior Shlita joins the voices of opposition. Rav Lior released a psak halacha that it is forbidden for a religious person to join one of these units.

“While IDF service is a mitzvah, there is no heter to enter such a situation in which there is no way to live a modest Torah life, one of kedusha” wrote the rav, adding “Therefore, for as long as men and women are mixed, one may not enter such a unit for these reasons”.

Rav Lior added “If the tzibur remains firm against the gezeira there is a chance it will be canceled”.
