LA Elects The First Jewish Mayor

eric-garcettiEric Garcetti won the Los Angeles mayoral race, becoming the first Jewish mayor of the nation’s second-largest city.

“Thank you Los Angeles — the hard work begins but I am honored to lead this city for the next four years,” Garcetti, 42, tweeted Wednesday morning. “Let’s make this a great city again.”

 

By 3 a.m. Wednesday, with 100 percent of the votes counted, Garcetti had received 54 percent of the vote.

“We have sent a message tonight, and that message is that Los Angeles is ready to put the recession in the rear view mirror and become the city of opportunity that I grew up in once again,” Garcetti told cheering supporters in Hollywood.

    First ELECTED Jewish mayor. We had an appointed Jewish mayor, Bernard Cohn in the 19th century.
