The rigorous schedule of Maran Rav Chaim Kanievsky is no secret. Toiling on the Torah is of utmost importance to the gadol, and comprises most of his 24 hours-a-day, as well as answering people shailos, personal questions or requests for brachos and yeshuos. Any shift in the busy schedule of Rav Kanievsky would have to be of extreme importance.
You could imagine the utter excitement that gripped the directors and team of elite editors of Machon Yerushalayim, who came to the home of Maran with a gift in hand, the first two volumes of the new Otzar Meforshei HaTorah, and other newly published seforim.
Maran Shlita, took the impressive set, bursting with commentaries from close to 1,000 seforim compiled together under one roof, on the entire Sefer Breishis. As he turned page after page, his face glowed with satisfaction, at the tremendous piece of work. He blessed and thanked the directors and editors of Machon Yerushalayim for publishing such a comprehensive chumash for the benefit of Klal Yisroel.
Members of the household commented that every time the directors of Machon Yerushalayim bring the newly published seforim to Maran, he alters his schedule for the next few days to go through the new creations. This newest monumental work of Machon Yerushalayim, Otzar Meforshei HaTorah was brought onto the kings table. Talmidei chachamim, scholars, rebbeim, balei batim, and talmidim are also invited to put it on their own personal table and bask in the light of the Torah and its 70 facets, gathered together, in a clear orderly fashion.
The massive scope of the operation is absolutely mind-boggling. The index consists of close to 1,000! seforim that were used in preparing this comprehensive compilation. Seforim of explanations, commentaries, and comments are all compiled together in this “treasure”, revealing, enlightening, and explaining practically every word and phrase in every Parsha, in the Chumash. The entire sefer Breishis has been published in two beautifully bound volumes, and at this very moment the third volume of the series, the first half of Sefer Shemos (Shemos through Yisro) is at the printing house and will be flown to the USA in time for leining Parshas Shemos!
