Plans to expand Congregation Shaarei Zion on Ocean Parkway between Avenue T and Avenue have divided residents on the issue as some say they’re not bothered with the expansion, but others see the proposed structure as an eyesore in their neighborhood.
Shaare Zion Synagogue hopes to expand the current structure to six stories, angering some local residents. Some are concerned about its impact on neighborhood aesthetics, while others worry about how much worse parking could get.

Too, bad our community board was not given the chance to vote about the 8 story monstrosity on Quentin and East 9th that can be seen from all over. Parking is hard here already.
How could THAT building been alloweded to be built in the first place? Wish us residents had answers to that one?
Does anyone think that the building on Quentin & E 9th will find enough tenants?
The are loads of smaller office buildings (mostly medical) that can’t fill up.
What are the builders thinking?
My guess is that once it’s finished ( although at rate it’s going up it may not happen in my lifetime) it will remain an empty eyesore.
Actually, that building is almost complete, they have been working on it rapidly. The owner is very wealthy, and even if he doesn’t rent out, it won’t matter to him. He built it just because.
Supposedly Touro, is taking a few floors. Great, more parking problems in a neighborhood, that is hard to park in already.
