A new Fox News poll finds that most Americans sympathize more with Israel than with the Palestinians in the ongoing conflict, though the divide varies sharply by age, race, and political affiliation.

Overall, 55 percent of respondents said they side more with Israel, compared with 41 percent who sympathize more with the Palestinians, according to the poll. Just 2 percent said they favored neither side, and another 2 percent were unsure.

The survey shows a deep partisan split. Republicans overwhelmingly back Israel, 77 percent to 20 percent, while Democrats side with the Palestinians, 59 percent to 34 percent. Independents lean toward Israel, 49 percent to 47 percent.
Ideology further sharpens the contrast: 81 percent of very conservative voters side with Israel, while 61 percent of liberals support the Palestinians.

Support also divides along racial lines. Nearly six in ten White respondents (59 percent) side with Israel, while 62 percent of Black respondents and 51 percent of Hispanic respondents back the Palestinians. Non-White voters overall are split, with 55 percent siding with Palestinians and 43 percent with Israel.

Age is another decisive factor. Sixty percent of Americans 65 and older back Israel, compared with just 32 percent of those under 30. Younger Americans favor the Palestinians by wide margins: 67 percent under 30 and 62 percent under 35 say they side with Palestinians.

Men are more likely than women to favor Israel (60 percent vs. 50 percent), while women tilt toward the Palestinians (46 percent). College-educated respondents lean more toward Israel (57 percent), while those without a degree are nearly split, with 53 percent for Israel and 43 percent for the Palestinians.

When asked whether U.S. support for Israel is appropriate, 43 percent said the level of support is about right, 35 percent said the U.S. is too supportive, and 21 percent said it is not supportive enough.

Here too, divisions emerge: younger voters are much more likely to say U.S. backing is excessive, with 45 percent of those under 30 saying America is too supportive. By contrast, 56 percent of those 65 and older said U.S. support is “about right.”

  1. Mr. Prime Minister, you stated that Osama bin laden was in there and the world condemned you. Even the POTUS had a sharp rebuke! I don’t understand them all. Qatar was harboring killers and brutal terrorists and they’re considered the good guys: the good allies of the U.S. I’m at a loss.
